Sounds like a real authoritarian state.

Another monger with a wife beater tee shirt, tats and gold necklace. Nothing new here, move along.

Clothes and lack of sartorial elegance always make the man.

Where do these guys get their style choices?

From blue-collar bums?

I really doubt he has an MA in anything useful.

same entitled people who ridicule those who wear surgical face masks on public.

What does ridiculing people who richly deserve it have to do with entitlement? I'd venture a guess that the people who are labelled 'anti immigrant' are, in fact, opposed to migrants and the lavish lifestyle handed to them by the governments who disdain the native populace.

If the currency used in the story is USD it would equate to 48k baht/month. That's certainly enough to cover shelter and food costs for 2 people living an ordinary life. Perhaps the woman is still working.

I find it funny how so many comments on this article is related to income and what type of Thai woman can be found depending on a farangs income in other words bought.

It just shows the type of woman many farangs end up being with, probably a bar girl from Isaan seeing that is where most of them come from, with sick parents and a buffalo to support.

What about those of us who are with a woman long term who have their own money, income and property and have already made it in life on their own and are with us out of mutual happiness.

There are many women like that, but they can not be found hanging around bars and thus the majority of farangs never meet them.

And the big thing which makes the gold digger type totally obvious is the fact they are with a guy old enough to be their father, that is one big giveaway.

Why do theses guys have such a woman full time, they stand out like a sore thumb as they walk together in public, they are not fooling anybody, why not just hire one now and then I am sure that is a lot less expensive?

im married to a normal thai girl. She is the breadwinner in our family. Im the house husband and taxi for my child taking her to school and tutoriing. its a good life. i could not be with a P4P girl

That is good to hear, good luck to you all, but be prepared for a set of thumb down comments as we anti bar-girl, pro-normal-Thai-Girl get thumbed down all the time as we have hit many guys too close to home and think their setup is the norm in Thailand, it is in their small circles but is definitely not the norm Thailand-wide.

But they do make me laugh. 😃

With 300,000 expats you would not know the percentages.

A gogo dancer offered me that role nearly 20 years ago but I didn't want to quit my secure job with a pension. It was very tempting though. She got into another line of work and ended up with an American guy her own age.

Not many on here would even know where that is.

You may be surprised how many people actually know how to do research (google?) to advance their knowledge without having someone explain everything they don't know.

You do realize that people who wears those type of shirts have nothing to do with being a wife beater right? Tattoos of course mean nothing either, as many good people have them, and a gold necklace is worn by millions , so I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Is his wife here a P4P? If not, then he's not a monger right?

The only thing I would question about his choice is were all his kids out of the house when he left. Old enough to take care of themselves and not still need their dad around.

Can get rent for $2000 per month easy in a big city and less elsewhere. Other expenses no where near $7500 in total. Bit suss on the story as the education sector is crying out for staff too in Australia so either he's not good or maybe he had a specialist role - then he needs to look for jobs further a field.

In Sydney you may be able to rent something for 2k 50-70km from the CBD. Typical 2 bedroom unit northeast of Parramatta river would be around $3500 pm. Nicer 2-3 bedroom terrace house in the inner west would fetch up to 6000 pm. I got a punctured tyre fixed yesterday $66. Not that difficult at all to spend $7500 per month.

Perth Western Australia

I'm from Perth, as is the subject of this thread. I'd love to hear a bit more detail about your very low-cost rental. Is it a nursing home or block of flats?

The 2026 average rental in Perth is around $700 pw; you seem to have a bargain.

I do know Melbourne better but it seems there's a fair few 1 bedrooms in that 30 to 50 km area from Sydney CBD. In terms of budget I think you can live on a lot less than that if a bit careful - limit eating out etc. I suppose we can agree that Sydney is definitely expensive and harder to have a good life there but I think you can get by ok on a lot less.

I do have an associate though who has found himself in a difficult situation - sold up for the thai dream at 49 - and now at 61 not sure what to do going back and forward - money low - hard in the short term to find a place to live in Australia - earn money - and get on your feet - but if committed to long term Australian life you can do it - support is there. Better for costs in Thailand - but no work and you need dollars - but if this guy is happy then good for him.

Don't worry mate, worked the NT for a few years out of Darwin, mostly east of the highway. Only went to the Daly River on a fishing trip.

Stood well back from the edge, I hope.

I've swum in Katherine Gorge while waiting for an overdue boat to link up. Went back in the dark, croc eyes shining everywhere. Freshies, fortunately.

Have also swum in the Ord, below the diversion dam. We were later told a large salty had been spotted around the bend from where we were. Have seen crocs from boats several times in places like Cairns and the Adelaide River.
