Cambodia Detains Thai Man After Surin Forest Crossing

Featured Replies

A Thai man, Yot Sainoi, 58, has been located and detained in Cambodia after entering a border forest in Thailand’s Surin province. He disappeared on April 25 while searching the Huay Samroeng Forest near Kab Choeng district for natural resources. His wife, Kannika Homkhajorn, reported his disappearance to the police when contact was lost, later highlighting the case through media, prompting authorities to investigate.

Yot’s motorcycle was discovered near the forest boundary, leading to speculation that Cambodian military personnel might have detained him. Confirming these suspicions, the Suranaree Task Force's commander, Boonserm Boonbamrung, announced that Yot had been arrested in Cambodia. Cambodian officials stated that he had illegally crossed the border and is currently in a prison in Oddar Meanchey province, where legal proceedings are underway.

Efforts are being made by Thai officials to coordinate with Cambodian authorities for his return. In response to the incident, the Thai 2nd Army Area and other military officials are collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring Yot's human rights are protected while he is held. Additionally, authorities have advised residents near the border to avoid entering forest areas without prior notification to local officials to prevent similar situations.

Locals near the border claim that they are accustomed to navigating the area without crossing into foreign territory. Some argue that Yot’s detention was unwarranted, suggesting he did not knowingly enter Cambodian territory. Meanwhile, military officials continue to stress caution to prevent crossing into disputed or sensitive areas.

I love it how Thai people always are not aware of any wrongdoings...Living in ignorance but be very relaxed. But I believe the this man knew exactly where he was and was doing. He is old enough
