Trump Repeats US Claim Over Greenland at NATO Summit

Featured Replies

President Donald Trump renewed his call for the United States to control Greenland during the NATO summit in Turkey on Tuesday, saying the Arctic territory should be under U.S. control rather than Denmark's.

Speaking to reporters alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Trump said Greenland "should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark", reviving a position that has strained relations between Washington and Copenhagen, both founding members of NATO.

Greenland Remarks Renew Tensions

Trump has repeatedly argued that the United States should acquire or control Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, citing its strategic importance.

Denmark Rejects Proposal

Hours later in Ankara, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen firmly rejected the suggestion, saying NATO allies should respect Denmark's sovereignty and recognise that Greenland was not for sale.

She said it was well known that the United States wanted to take control of Greenland, but stressed that such a move would not happen. Frederiksen also said there were no plans for discussions at the summit on Greenland, the Arctic or the High North.

Greenland's Foreign Minister Mute Egede echoed Denmark's position, saying the island's future should be decided by its own people.

In a Facebook post, Egede said Greenland's future had always been determined by its population and that this would continue, while adding that the territory should maintain close cooperation with its allies.

Trump Cites Security Concerns

Trump argued that the disagreement over Greenland had affected U.S. relations within NATO.

He said Denmark was not doing enough to support Greenland despite its strategic location, claiming the island was surrounded by Chinese and Russian vessels. Trump also pointed to U.S. spending on European security, particularly in response to Russia, as part of his criticism.

The United States has long viewed Greenland as strategically important because of its location in the Arctic and its role in regional defence.

Diplomatic Talks Continue

Despite the public disagreement, the issue has shifted onto a diplomatic track in recent months.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in June that discussions with Denmark and Greenland were continuing on a monthly basis.

At the NATO meeting, the lying POS POTUS Trump, also claimed that Denmark 'gave' Greenland to the United States during WWII and that the US should never have given it back.

In fact, Denmark helped the United States by allowing it to defend Greenland and establish bases there after Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany.

Greenland’s strategic location helped the US and the Allies with North Atlantic security, weather information, and military operations.

Denmark did not give Greenland to the US — it cooperated with an ally during WWII while maintaining Danish sovereignty.

Denmark never gave Greenland to the United States. When Germany occupied Denmark in 1940, the Danish ambassador to the U.S. signed a 1941 treaty allowing America to defend the island. (see above) The U.S. built military bases but explicitly recognized Denmark's sovereignty.

Trump always leave behind a bad stench in every summit. This time he compounded his Greenland threat with his belittling of Denmark's quick surrender to Germany. This kind of loose, blunt even offensive rhetoric by a world leader is sordid and unnecessary. Dementia has damaged parts of this brain to be able to control his words, impulse and reasoning. He really is unfit to continue as POTUS.

Meanwhile Japan is in the President's crosshairs:

President Trump mistakenly claimed that the "Islamic Republic of Japan" fired 111 missiles at the USS Abraham Lincoln, which were all intercepted.

The president's statement appeared to confuse Japan with Iran, as he was likely referencing an earlier incident involving Iranian forces attacking a US carrier.

Japan, a close US ally since World War II, is a constitutional monarchy with a small Muslim population and has not engaged in hostilities with the United States in nearly a century.

Sounds as if Rubio lies as much as his master.

Guess the discussions go as followed.

Denmark : Never

Rutte pressed by reporter for not defending NATO allies against Trump

AA27uRmi.jpg

Mark Rutte was challenged on his “self-respect” by a reporter who accused him of failing to come to the defence of Nato nations threatened by Donald Trump.

The US president has reignited his calls to annex Greenland - an autonomous territory of Denmark - at the outset of the military alliance’s annual summit on Wednesday (8 July).

“I’m not happy with Nato because of what they did in Greenland,” Mr Trump said in Turkey, Ankara, as the Nato general secretary remained silent and appeared to smile.

A Danish journalist went on to grill Mr Rutte, who he said sits by as Mr Trump “talks about conquering Greenland, talks about lashing out at allies like Spain, starting trade wars”.

“Does this have any effect on your self-respect when you sit like that and say nothing?"

Trump hit with cold stare as he insults Zelensky to his face

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remained stone-faced Wednesday after President Donald Trump called him a "difficult character" to his face – a jab Trump seemed to find funny, letting out an awkward laugh after delivering it.

“We've settled a lot of wars, and this one is the one that I thought maybe would be the easiest, but [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's a difficult character, and this guy's a difficult character!” Trump said as he pointed to Zelenskyy, followed by a short laugh.

Zelenskyy didn’t reciprocate Trump’s laughter, however, and remained stoic as he glared at Trump.

By no means do all Greenlanders approve of the Danish influence over their territory.

What comes next? Claiming UK part of US? Or Canada? Or Australia? Simply all allies in WW2

Historical hallmarks of the trump/Project 2025 administration ... ignorance, incompetence, corruption.

The UK wants the US back.
