Just like the recent Phuket tuktuk driver assault, if the Thai guy was pulling the typical jetski scam, I have zero sympathy for him, and zero sympathy in general for Thai's hiring jetskis in Phuket.

Thai scammer deservedly got his come upance

Nothing changes in Patong. The jet ski conflicts and scams have been going on ever since these machines were allowed on the beach. Does anyone remember the great Phuket government solution of requiring all Jetskis to be insured for physical damage? The insurance scheme was going to eliminate these conflicts. The price of rentals were increased to reflect the additional insurance cost. So much for the great solution.

The last time I was there I counted almost 100 of the machines parked on the small beach. Much of the water is given over to the profiteers. I have zero sympathy for anyone who gets caught up in these conflicts because everyone knows or should know that they are a rip off. Most reviews of Patong mention the problem. The people who rent the jetskis have only themselves to blame. They think they can outsmart villains who make a living from cheating people. The beach workers are the scum of the scum. Patong is a ghetto for low end foreigners. Few Thai people holiday in Patong because they are are smart enough to avoid a tourist town that my friend called a plague city.

I knew before seeing the perp's photo, the profile of the foreigner who would be involved. Mr. Williamson thought he was back in the the big city where he can get away with being a ghetto thug. Didn't turn out the way it thought it would. US embassy can have fun dealing with his complaining.

yes, but nothing to lose to try. My experience with Patong police was they weren't interested. However, there is a current campaign to clean up Thailand's image in the eyes of tourists, so times may have changed as to enforcing fraudulent damage claims. MAY have.

There is something to lose by contacting the Police .

The Police will want their cut and the cost will go up by 10 000 baht

In on it of course. even if one goes to a police station they seem to believe the jet ski owner and simply get involved in negotiations. And get a cut!

He needs prosecuting for that.
