Starting over with a new Non Immigrant O Visa

Featured Replies

After a 5 month delay ( due to war etc ) I will finaly be flying to the UK on 28th July to help with my ailing 93 year old mother. I will be staying there 10 weeks.

While there I will be getting a new UK passport. I understand that if I get a re entry visa in my old passport , all I have to do on my return is present both passports to the immigration officer at the airport to gain entry. After that , once I get to my home province , take both passports to my local immigration and get my old Non O visa transfered to my new passport.

However , I was considering starting over and getting a new Non O evisa from the Thai embassy in London. I understand that you need to apply online for an evisa which I assume is not printed in your new passport but sent to you as a PDF file ???

The fly in the ointment is the proof of 400,000 in the Bangkok bank which will require an up to date statement. The Bangkok bank app can apparently provide this but the app does not seem reliable.

Alternatively , AI informs me that I can enter Thailand on a tourist visa , convert this to a Non O in country using form TM86 then aply for an extenion as per normal with the usual paperwork

So ....my question is.....which is the simplest option least likely to go wrong. I am leaning towards just getting a re entry visa but was wondering if others had found the other ways easier.

If you already have an extension then surely getting a reentry permit has to be the easiest option. This assumes the expiry of your current extension exceeds the planned duration of your trip. The other options are more effort and expense for no obvious benefit.

If it were me, I would do this.

Yes....I am now reverting to this option since it seems easiest with least hoops to jump through. I only asked because when it first entered my head to get a new Non O i didn't fully appreciate how convoluted it would get. It also had to investigate it since , if just at the end of my 10 week stay my mothers health took a serious downturn , obliging me to stay longer , then my total stay would exceed my current extension

( which expires Nov 2nd ). If this happens then I'll just ignore getting a new non O , enter on a tourist visa and take it from there. The 400,000 has been in the bank for 6 months already so no issue there. Thanks for confirming my own thoughts

You would be obtaining a reentry permit.

You obtain that prior to leaving Thailand.

Skip the idea of starting over.

Which immigration office.

Single reentry permit is 1000b at immigration office or airport at time of departure.

If it does come to that then I would highly recommend getting the new non O in the UK. It's so easy to do, completely online, and you'd have it within a week.

Yup, praise the lord, I have seen the light. Re entry visa is the way to go which I have always done in the past. Just hoping mum doesn't have a relapse obliging me to stay longer.
