After a solid 23+ yrs of exploring, I'm running out of ideas for TH, and have no plans to sit on a plane for 6 hrs, for anything that might be of interest elsewhere. Neighboring countries don't interst me at all. Laos and Malaysia a bit too far away, and same same, not that different. 2 weeks is our max for being away from house. Even our last outing, southern loop, was stayed at 4 repeat hotels, for convenience. Nice, but goes beyond been there, seen & done that, again, as only good for a day as it is. What's nice about southward, after 1st long leg, everything is within 2 or 3 hours drive to next area, if not just an hour. Like the coastline, if having cresent bays with limestone headlands, as long flat bays are a bit boring. Why Phuket is so popular. Same with some drastic nice rolling hills, or best, limestone karsts, and why we love Surat, Krabi, Phang Nga & NST. Ratchaburi & Kanchanaburi has some nice areas. North is too far away, and Isan too flat, except extreme plateau areas, but way too boring else wise. Never really warmed up to Khao Yai area. Damn small country, with no real rail service, fast that is. Be nice to hop a train, get somewhere fast, and simpy rent a scooter to get around. Here, I can drive in comfort faster than most train journeys, along with, not pet friendly. Oh well, maybe Kanchanaburi after next Krung Thep visit, and up to the Mon Bridge, since have been in long time. Hate that it's one road in & out, same as Umphang, and why I never ventured there, besides too far from Krung Thep.
