Top US officials believe that the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has declared closed, is heavily mined. No vessel has hit a mine as of date, leading to the question if the mines were laid in the first place.

It would have been self-defeating for Iran to have laid mines in the Strait. If they need to attack a ship, they have lots of methods at their disposal.

And if they have many more USS Samuel B. Roberts S.O.H. mining incidents they will only have 19 and dwindling!

It all depends on the type of mines and how they are laid, or just declared as being laid. Look at what Iran did during the 1980's tanker war!

And (false) claims of mine laying in the Suez canal during the 1967/85 closure!

It takes minutes to say you have laid mines in a certain are but it can take months for a navy(s) to declare an area 95% clear.

No Navy will declare a waterway 100% clear!

I know this might come as a shock, but maybe Trump was lying about the mines.
