Transfers via Wise.

Featured Replies

Is it normal for a transfer from Wise to a Thai bank account to take 8 days? I made a first request to send funds to my bank account on 7th I was told funds were transferred on 8th for receipt on 10th. Then funds will not be received until 13th (weekend in the way). Monday nothing Wise then advised Tuesday 14th, now it should be 15th.

Before I continue using Wise, I presume this transfer is something out of the ordinary.

MOVED to Banking forim

My transfers with Wise, Australian bank - Wise - Kasikorn bank, takes all of about 8 seconds, not 8 days.

Is it your first transfer?

Depends on bank, amount and day of the week, yesterday i sent £1k Kasikorn, settled 1 second

It was my first transfer to my account from UK. I have sent funds to other third party bank accounts in the past with no problem.

You haven't provided any useful info like thai bank account

How big was the transfer? Large ones can take up to a week I've found to both Thailand and the Philippines.

First transfers can take longer. That's normal. Large transfers can also take longer. After the first transfer lands, try another small transfer and see what happens. The money should arrive in a timely fashion.

Many thanks for this. The money arrived yesterday after an 8 day wait.

What difference would there be in me mentioning the Thai bank?

Different banks have different methods of getting the money from wise. K-bank, bkk and scb had direct input (last time I checked) while the others need to go through an intermediary. Of course that may have changed.

For example Bangkok Bank seems consistently slower than Kasikorn

Great, but go and do another small transfer now. Just chose a nominal amount, say 1,000 baht. It should arrive very quickly.

Oh I understand. The funds were going to Krungsri and it looks like there correspondent bank is Bangkok Bank.

BTW, the funds arrived yesterday afternoon, over 8 days after my original request.

Do you mean first transfer from a Wise account in the UK or a transfer from a UK bank using Wise. I suspect the latter but please confirm.

I plan to do a first transfer from a Wise account shortly and forewarned is forearmed.

The payment was from my UK Wise account. When I use my UK bank account the transfers usually take up to two days.

BTW, I chose Wise this time because they had a better exchange rate and much lower transfer costs.

I do UK bank to Wise at no transfer fee and takes a second. Then Wise to KBank for small fee and takes another second or two. Never longer than 10 seconds usually.

Yes, same in Oz context: Oz bank > Wise > BKKBk - happens (now - since earlier this year) faster than I can record it.

I usually transfer from my HSBC account, they charge £5 for the transfer which is usually less than 24 hours. With the 300 baht Thai bank fee overall cost about £12. Downside is you have to take the rate at the time BOT do the conversion.

With the increase this week I have bought some THB using Wise account and now thinking about transferring some to Thailand. I can't see that the overall Wise costs will be much better than HSBC, I was £6.63/£1k to buy the THB and still have to pay for the transfer.

My plan to try and take advantage of the rise in the rate using Wise didn't go very well. When I tried to do the transfer found out they stopped transfers to TTB in May, think I saw that but forgot.

Will sit on the baht till rate goes down and convert back to GBP.
