Not in my experience. Used to stay there about 15 years ago for a few days at a time for business purposes. Stayed in Prince Palace hotel upon the BoBae Tower. Hotel was pretty good.

Other than a Chinese meal or buying items of clothing by the dozen at the nearby wholesale market, there is virtually nothing to do.

It's quite different between day and night. For photography and night market style street food, visiting after dark is nice. During the day, it's a different experience with fewer food vendors and more of the traders doing their thing.

If you enjoy roaming, exploring, street life and especially photography, I think Chinatown is great day or night. The vibe is quite different to other popular areas.

Never been to Chinatown here but have been to in NYC, Houston and Austin Texas. Do some of my food shopping there in Texas a couple of times a month, as there are many Asian markets around that have most anything you want Chinese, along with other Asian cultures. Good bargains and great restaurants, especially in NYC.

My b/f & I explored Chinatown for the first time recently, during daytime, having only ever been there in the past for visits to a particular jewellery.

Found it disappointing.

The back streets and alleys are more interesting than the main road, though it's usually the famous neon signs that show up in all the pictures. The little shops and stalls sell lots of traditional Chinese goods that are quite different from the stuff sold elsewhere in Bangkok (and very different from what you find in modern China as well).

Bobae is in that same general area, but is a good mile away from the Wat Mangkon / Charoen Krung area that most people are thinking about when they refer to "Chinatown". Chinatown itself is a lot more interesting than that Bobae market area, unless someone is really into the market scene.

Yea, we enjoyed it, but it was daytime. Not into mass crowds, and it gets packed at night. Strolled through from one of (3) rail stations, had a munch, over to the river taxe, that takes you over to ICONSIAM, cool season (Xmas) so nice to knock around.

ICONSIAM, had just open that year, and an awesome place. Did a bit of a revamp at the 'floating water market' area, downsized but a lot more food vendor now.

Been there a few other times, ChinaTown (day) & ICONSIAM (day & night), and night views from ICONSIAM are nice.

Actually worth staying on the Khlong San side of the river, for ICONSIAM, and access to ChinaTown, IMHO, unless enjoy all the congestion on the other 'touristy' side.

If hanging out on the river a couple days, then Wang Lang Pier / market area is nice

Another area to check out, pre-sunset & beyond, Khlong Ong Ang Canal Market.

Nothing. Old, overpriced, empty crappy mall of days past. Surprised it's still there, and CP hasn't bought and revamped it to something useful.

Main use is pier for some of the river dinner cruises, and the reason most people pass through it.

Just my opinion. Didn't like it Went there to buy 5 baht gold. Shops extremely crowded so much money on tables shops owners didn’t care about a measly 5 baht. I Really mean thousands of baht being traded. Better to go Tesco lotus. Lol. Just seemed like a sleezy place to me. Again just my opinion and what I thought. was first time and thought I’d find a deal. No there was none
