FBI thanks Thailand as scam crackdown cooperation expands

Featured Replies

The FBI has thanked Thailand for its contribution to tackling online crime, following a meeting with Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Government House on 21 July 2026.

According to government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek, the FBI director, Kash Patel and the US ambassador to Thailand, Sean K. O’Neill, met Anutin to discuss continued cooperation against international crime, including scam networks, narcotics and human trafficking.

The discussion focused in particular on online scams and technology-related crime. Ratchada said Thai authorities, led by the Royal Thai Police, had already worked closely with the FBI on the issue.

Joint action against online scams

Thailand recently hosted a joint seminar on scam suppression attended by officials from around the world, Ratchada said. The latest meeting was intended to build on that cooperation and underline the Thai government's commitment to pursuing scam operators.

The FBI thanked Thailand for being an important partner in the fight against online crime, she added.

Anutin also raised human trafficking, drugs and scams, describing them as national priorities. The Thai government confirmed it was ready to cooperate with the FBI and other countries in addressing the problems.

Sharing intelligence through Shield

Ratchada said Thailand has an international-standard technology platform and investigative database known as Shield, developed by the Royal Thai Police.

The system is intended to support information-sharing with overseas partners, allowing authorities to work together on investigations. Thailand plans to share relevant data internationally as part of the broader effort to combat online crime.

Both sides agreed that suppressing scam networks should go beyond arrests. Their objective, Ratchada said, is to dismantle the operations at their roots and bring them to an end.

The Royal Thai Police already has plans for ongoing cooperation with the FBI, she said, with further joint work expected as Thailand continues its campaign against transnational crime.

While authorities pursue organised networks, foreign residents and visitors should remain alert to common online fraud risks, including unsolicited calls, messages and requests for transfers of money or personal details.
