I love BTS and enjoy navigating around Bangkok using the mass transit system.

And, again, just as in the West where there are tik tok, facebook, instagram, and U-tube fads and trends where people rag about the cost of living, cost of housing, cost of groceries, the sucky job market, how America has become dystopian, or mentally ill people are terrorizing passengers on the NYC subways, etc., etc., in Thailand there is a social media sub-culture that competes with one another to post videos of foreigners behaving in ways that allow for endless tongue clucking, pearl clutching, and venting of resentments. Not saying that none of this is justified. I'm just saying that these social media trends create an unhealthy real life atmosphere were people are looking for opportunities to be offended, and I suspect that social media, and the thirst for social media notoriety, may have played a role in this incident.

Thailand is noisy, always has been. It has headache level noise.

However, for reasons I do not understand, nor attempt to get an explanation for, etiquette on the sky train is to get to your seat and be quiet. There are exceptions; Chatuchak weekend market run, or big clouts coming from DM on the A-1. Still, that is packed, standing room only, lots of non-Thais, and again, the EXCEPTION.  I expect it to be quiet, lowkey, that is how the Thais act, so I do too. Been that way for twenty six years now, so not a hasty assumption..

BTW, funny things, their teacher/Instructor was with them, and joined right in this meltdown. Even stranger, members of this same group were reportedly involved in another little kerfuffle at 'a shopping mall in Bangkok's Rama 9 area' the day before. Get some popcorn, when that drops. Looks like a good thing the Italian Embassy jumped in when they did.

Pathetic anti-social behavior from the Thai Karen. Tik tok and social media has completely rotted the brains of many Thais. Rather than politely asking the foreign tourists to keep it down, she yells from across the bus while recording.

The foreign tourists bringing up "slanted eyes" or "bringing money into the country" is ignorant, racist, and extremely rude.

The amount of attention this is getting is mind boggling. Watch the Thai news. Children abused every day and they blur the perverts face. This lady posted video of teenagers face without blurring, I guess it's ok because they were not Thai.

She would never dream of posting this video of a Thai person, she would be immediately sued for defamation. She then has the audacity to file charges on them for saying mean words. This is totally embarrassing for Thailand.

The worst part of this is Thais are one of the loudest cultures maybe the loudest I have been around in my life. I have been to many countries, this is the only one where I walked into a 711 and somchai's sub woofer was so loud it knocked all of the items off the shelf. I ride the bus to isaan people screaming into the phone on speaker phone the whole ride, watch videos with no headphones, recline there chair onto my legs.

Staying at the wife's house once a month they would induct kids to be monks in the temple half a kilometre away. Loud music until some God aweful hour. I guess Thais are immune to it or use earplugs. Which reminds me, I used to work in Hammersmith in London and I caught a train from Watford to Kensington and walked up to Hammesmith. At Wembley a whole bunch of East Europeans got on who proceeded to shout at each other. Since it was a construction job I raided to the PPE cupboard for some ear plugs. I thought of taking ear defenders but that might have been a bit over the top and obvious.
