Sometimes the Thai police may accept photocopies or images on a phone, but other times won't. You have to show your passport and could be in for a lot of hassle if you can't. Don't count on being able to show a photocopy at a military checkpoint.

That is indeed strange, as Thai hotels are required by law to ask to see passports and record details when foreigners register.

Oh contraire ... IF they ask for it youm better have it, Detention and or fine if they're not happy ...

    everytime i travel thru the south i carry passport, you need it to check into hotels, ( driving license not enough) plus, Why not
