Trump Gets Conflicting Messages on Iran War Exit

Not sure what you’re asking (??) The Persians have lived in, and governed, the area that is today Iran continuously for roughly 3,000 years. Persia was invaded by Alexander the Great (4th century BC), the Rashidun Caliphate (7th century AD), and Genghis Khan (13th century AD), but fully recovered each time.

But since Trump and his highly ignorant minions don't read history and are too arrogant to learn from it anyway the inevitable continues to happen to America. The fact that they have not won a war since World War II seems to elude most people. And that's despite the fact that they have the world's largest military and the highest annual budget by many multiples.

The fact that they're saddled with the dumbest, most ignorant, and most arrogant SEC DEF in history is not helping things either.

That all objectives weren't met in the wars after World Way II doesn't mean they didn't do a tremendous amount of damage to their opponents, and could have continued if they wanted to. One sides as far as military was concerned. Vietnam we shouldn't have entered, and things weren't changed in other places also, but as far as attrition, the US always wins those, as they have here. This isn't the past, and the military is a lot stronger than even ten years ago now.

That we have a leader that doesn't belong there is obvious, and this will eventually change, hopefully with another who concentrates on Americans and less on foreign countries unless they need our help or for trade purposes. Those that underestimate Americans always learn the hard way.

Looks like TACO Sunday and will have a peaceful weekend after the profanity laced warning to Iran that the US will beat the f.,,,,,s.. out of them. Trump is nothing but a paper tiger. Acting tough and vulgar are just a reflection of how scared you actually are. Devoid of coherent policy decision, floundering hopelessly with no strategy and lacking experience diplomats. He really has no exit ramp.

That's about the size of it.

Although too much significance is being placed on Trump, and too little on the forces that are driving him.

He is - for whatever reason(s) - just a stooge for Israel and the poweful Zionist lobby in the US.

To be fair, I would say that the US “won” the first Gulf War (under the first Bush), in that we met our objective, which was to eject the Iraqis from Kuwait. The Korean War was perhaps a draw, as it ended pretty much with circumstances the same as before (technically, that war is still ongoing).

Otherwise -- yeah, one stupid, senseless “adventure” after another!

Don't forget Grenada. They won that one. Impressive. Unseating yet another democratically elected government at the same time.

And don't forget the disgraceful and disgusting Cuba embargo that is starving Cubans of the basics and energy. While blaming Havanna for the shortages. Just like Putin's Russia with its neighbors. Who'd a thunk it. No difference between the US and Russia.

Phew, even its former friends and allies now known how badly the US stinks. Other countries found out long ago when they were being napalmed.

It's not set that the majority in Iran opposes their leaders.

But if correct, it should be attacked, its leaders assassinated, so the regime can strengthen its hold?

but there is this

Iranian state media claimed roughly 10 million people from neighboring Iraq participated in the regional processions for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's funeral, contributing to an overall disputed total of 41 to 43 million attendees across Iran and Iraq

Against the wishes of the overall population? You need a history lesson. The overall general population rose up and threw out the Pahlavi monarch under the Shah who was previously installed by a CIA coup plot against a democratic elected government. It was the desire of the overall population to established the current Islamic Republic of Iran.

Now a second time 🤡😂🤣

A member of Iran's coucil has said it has had no such meetings with regards to Trumps latest lies as he put it.

The decision to invade Iran was a horrendous mistake, and it was never about nuclear weapons. Many Americans bought that fake narrative, though. Many are very gullible.

Afghanistan became a byword for ill-considered western interventionism and nation-building. It was the archetypal “forever war”, a phrase first coined during Vietnam.

If this cautionary tale had any lasting value, it was as a deterrent to politicians and generals tempted to rashly embark on open-ended conflicts without just cause, defined, achievable aims, and an exit strategy. Dismayingly, the forever war lesson had to be learned all over again in Iraq, which the US and UK invaded in 2003 and departed, having caused huge harm for scant benefit, in 2011. “Never again!” was the passionate cry at the time and since.

And yet, it seems, the same disastrous pattern is now repeating after Donald Trump’s incomprehensibly foolish decision to attack Iran. A war he termed a “little excursion” is entering its sixth month and has been escalating rapidly. It, too, has a forever feel.

That this nightmare is happening again defies all reason. How can it be? Immediate causes of the war aside, answers may be found in persistent US exaggerations and misconceptions about the level and extent of external threats, mixed up with political dishonesty, national hubris, naivety and misplaced idealism.

If the Afghan war was prosecuted on the basis of a false assumption, so much more so was the invasion of oil-rich Iraq. George W Bush’s claim in 2002 that Saddam Hussein’s regime possessed stockpiles of readily usable chemical and biological weapons and was seeking a nuclear bomb proved untrue. Untrue, too, was the claim from the then vice-president, Dick Cheney, that Iraq “aids and protects” al-Qaida. The subsequent occupation and insurgency became part of an even larger forever war – Bush’s “global war on terror”. According to Brown University’s Costs of War project, an estimated 940,000 people were killed in direct post-9/11 violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan between 2001 and 2023. Up to 3.8 million died indirectly in post-9/11 war zones.

What else makes American politicians risk costly entanglements in foreign wars they can’t control and usually lose? Insecurity – meaning fear – is a common denominator. Like Bush before him, Trump and Israel’s leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, have greatly and knowingly exaggerated the immediacy and existential nature of the Iranian threat.

Like Iraq in 2003, Iran possesses no nuclear weapons and there is zero firm evidence it is trying, or has recently tried, to acquire them. There is a recurring paradox here: it’s the spectacle of the world’s most powerful country once again fearfully tilting at shadows.

In Trump’s case, ego is also a factor. It seems he would rather kill thousands more civilians, risk committing war crimes, set the Middle East ablaze and destroy Republicans’ electoral chances than admit he was wrong over Iran. Such extreme behaviour illuminates another pernicious aspect of the forever war phenomenon. Its utter pointlessness is fundamentally immoral. In its sheer un-reason, it offends against the laws of God and man. War without end is the death of hope.

As he frantically twists and turns over Iran, it’s plain that Trump perceives the bottomless pit on the edge of which, thanks to him, the US totters – and has no idea how to avoid it.

This abysmal Iranian catastrophe is already defining Trump’s presidency. The bloody stain, the blame and the shame, if not the war, will last forever.

Donald is a reckless and dumb street trash goon.

No, I don't need a history lesson.

Yes, you are right, they got in following a protest vote by the people rejecting the corrupt regime of the Shah, that is true.

However, they didn't know what it would lead to, and now in the 2020s, you know full well they want them out, as do all decent Iranians.

They are kept there with their vile ideology through force and with the help of the IRGC.

You KNOW this.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This is arguably the most important pillar.

The IRGC is a powerful military, intelligence, and economic organization that answers directly to the Supreme Leader rather than the elected government. It also oversees the Basij militia, which has often been used to suppress protests and maintain internal security.

If the people who have run Iran for the past 47 years (since the Islamic Revolution) are not “Persian,” then who else would they be? I don’t know what idea you might have here.

“Persia” is actually a Greek-origin word, used by the West to refer to the Persian ethnic group, but the Persians themselves, in their own language (Farsi), have always referred to their nation as “Iran.” The modern state of Iran comprises many ethnic groups; somebody here pointed out that Ali Khamenei was part Azeri, and a close friend of mine who’s Iranian is an ethnic Kurd. These various minority ethnic groups mostly assimilate to some degree into the predominant Persian culture.

Of course Persians are not Arabs (though there’s a minority Arab population living in Iran), but Persians are very much Muslim, and again I’m not sure what you’re asking -- are you conflating Arabs and Muslims?

The answers are all out there, but you have to ask the right questions!

Trump isn’t the problem, he is the symptom. The problem is the people who vote for him, think he has delivered everything he promised, think that the earth is flat etc etc.

I have given you historical fact while you are giving me a personal opinion. The Shah's SAVAK was equally ruthless and the laws were stacked against the people and yet there was a popular uprising. Iranians will staged a revolution when there tolerance threshold are tested. It has not happened and that is a fact.

I asked a very simple Question and you answer it very clearly. not sure why you have your boxers all wedge up you behind.

The question I've heard others ask so it got me curious from reading this thread.

This seem to be a very sensitive issue maybe that is why the leaders have no problem slaughtering and silencing their own.

If citizens want to be lead by leaders currently that is their choice but if any leader spend more time threatening and using their resources to declared and ordering destruction that is a problem for me.

Israel are now in a worse position.

They kicked the hornets nest for no advantage, the US wants out, not having achieved any major successes, and the Strait is now in play and is or will be under the control of Iran.......what a cluster****.

Millions have taken to the streets to support the regime against US and Israel military actions. A fractured country and collapsing economy from US sanctions but has not reach the level of popular support to overthrow the Islamic government in a revolution.

And others are supportive of the regime. Your supposition based on a limited knowledge is meaningless, as is mine. We simply don't know who and how many are supporting the regime.
