Malaysia King orders tighter security at entry points

Malaysia's King has ordered tighter security at airports and other entry points across the country in a push to curb drug smuggling and cross-border crime.

Sultan Ibrahim said ministries and agencies responsible for border security must strengthen enforcement, maintain continuous monitoring and work closely together to prevent criminal activity that could threaten public safety and order.

"Security at the country's entry points must always be strengthened through effective enforcement, continuous monitoring and close cooperation among all relevant agencies," the King said in a Facebook post, according to Bernama.

For foreigners living in or travelling to Malaysia, tighter controls could mean increased scrutiny at airports and land border crossings as agencies step up enforcement. No specific new procedures for travellers have yet been announced, so there is currently no indication of changes to immigration requirements or entry rules.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim later said the government would uphold the King's call to strengthen governance, enforcement and national security.

King demands full Tabung Haji investigation

Sultan Ibrahim separately called for an exhaustive investigation into the Royal Commission of Inquiry report concerning Lembaga Tabung Haji, saying anyone responsible for wrongdoing should face appropriate action.

"No one should escape action if they are truly found guilty. Most importantly, things like this must not happen again," he said.

The King made the comments after granting Anwar an audience at Istana Bukit Tunku, where the Prime Minister briefed him on the RCI report and current issues involving the Federal Land Development Authority.

The RCI report was declassified following a Cabinet decision, allowing enforcement agencies to carry out further investigations based on its findings.

Report heads to Parliament

Anwar announced on July 31 that a special parliamentary sitting would be held on August 11 to debate the RCI findings.

The King said investigations should be comprehensive and that there should be no compromise in dealing with anyone ultimately found guilty.
