Wise QR code payments

Featured Replies

This may have come up before but bear with me

Thread is off the back of another thread whereby mention had been made of Thai bank accounts being closed or restricted because whilst the holder of the account might have owned it for decades the current visa status doesnt allow one

Now I googled Wise QR having read it elsewhere. I'm in UK currently and Wise account is registered in UK that may be important

Now opened app clicked on cards followed google instructions and QR scanner opened up to my surprise

It seems to indicate it will work if the merchant has the following "Alipay+, DuitNow QR, or QRPh"

Is this what Wise accounts opened and registered in Thailand are seeing ??

With my Thai-registered WISE account, I tried to make a PromptPay QR code payment a few months ago, when the QR code payment option first appeared in my app. It didn't work, the app said it doesn't recognize the QR code. So I paid with a Thai bank app instead, as per usual. I haven't tried since, I'd guess it got delayed along with the overall transition.

One of Thai friends can generate a QR code via prompt pay for her Bangkok Bank as I sent her 106 baht once before via SCB QR app (dont ask lol) I will try and get hold of her and get her to send me a 50 Baht QR code and will try via my wise app.....I've got about 250 Baht sat on the side Thai account associated with my Wise account

It's very clear in the app where QR payment works. Thailand isn't included. Yet.

Wise cards work in Thailand, I use mine all the time on Lazada and at ATM now and again. Only use cash in shops.

Paying by QR is another ball game, should be banned in my opinion, getting fed up standing behind people at the checkout who can't get it to work.

The delay at the checkout is mostly not the QR code payment but people trying to apply discount vouchers within the app of the shops. QR code payment is usually faster than people counting cash and cashiers counting change.

I would doubt that assertion, but at the end of the day phones are the problem.

Dont disagree with that.....

Times I've used it with SCB app has strictly been for checking bin at bars. I've used Wise few times via debit card in Big C before with no issues
