Thailand Gives Ministries 90 Days to Develop New National School Safety Standards

Four Thai ministries have been given 90 days to draft nationwide school safety standards following the deadly attack at Debsirin Nonthaburi School. The proposed framework will include regular mental health screening, emergency drills, bullying prevention, CCTV reviews and tighter checks on people and prohibited items entering campuses. Debsirin Nonthaburi will remain closed temporarily while psychological support teams help students, teachers and parents prepare for classes to resume. Authorities are also considering training teachers to identify at-risk students, creating confidential reporting channels and allowing searches of belongings in certain cases where weapons are suspected. The completed national standards are expected to be submitted to Cabinet, while government agencies arrange financial and other assistance for those affected by the shooting.
