Malaysia’s Health Ministry is increasing staffing, monitoring and healthcare readiness as haze raises the risk of asthma and upper respiratory infections across the country.

Unhealthy readings

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said around 30 areas nationwide had recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index readings. The ministry is coordinating with education and environmental authorities as poor air quality persists.

Children, pregnant women, older people and other high-risk groups have been advised to wear masks if symptomatic, avoid outdoor activity and drink enough water.

What it means for foreigners in Malaysia

Visitors and residents with asthma or respiratory conditions should monitor local API updates, keep medication accessible and reduce time outdoors when readings are unhealthy. Seek medical advice promptly if symptoms worsen.
