I use my office quite a bit and want to buy a comfortable office chair with good casters and adjustable height. I've have had at least six office chairs over the years and they have all failed within a year or two. I am finished buying those 6000 - 8000 baht chairs that end up with bad pistons for raising and lowering the chair height after a year or so.

I'd like a quality chair like the Aeron but they go for $1700 USD before importing and I can't afford that price. So looking for something with a solid ergonomic design and a more reasonable price.

Is there a shop that might sell this sort of chair in the Chiang Mai area?

Ive had a comfortable 1500baht chair for the last 7 years!! and just replaced it literally today. It was getting a bit thin on the seatpad after all this time so its been relegated to another family member. Still a good chair.

You dont need to pay big money - thats for sure- the main issue here is they are mostly made for Asian size people not us heavy farangs - so with that in mind- whats yr height and approx weight ?

The main place is Pergo by 'Chanintr' which is a high end furniture store in Siam Paragon in Bangkok - well it was years ago when I bought my first Aeron.

They sell them online and when you order them it arrives in a huge box, ready to use - zero assembly - I've bought 3 of these Aerons over the years.

Yes, OfficeMate seems to have the biggest selection. But I know what you mean, not necessarily good nor durable. Did you try Central? Of course they are all Central Pattana. Their competitor the Mall Group might import different brands.

My size is part of the problem- 6 ft 2 inches and about 240 lb. The seats wear out, but the thing that really aggravates me is that the piston stops working, which means you can't maintain enough height to use at a desk. This is the reason I'm willing to spend significantly more money this time around/

I use a couple of 'Jubilee clips' tightened around the piston to stop it 'sinking' Just set a good height first (Office mate chair, not great)

I use this one at the dining table. Not sure if it even has adjustable height, as didn't want or use, as you say, they all failed. Had it for a while, quite comfy. Had to secure one 'arm screw' with super glue, as it seemed to come loose quite ofter, fixed now.

Goes on sale for about 1600 every other month ...

That might work for you but at age 83 with bad knees, it ain't that easy for me to "think different."
Here's a story for your entertainment: I bought a foldable, lightweight (450g) chair for birdwatching last year. I paid $160 USD for it. It turned out that it's too low for me to sit down gently into it — because my knees won't bend enough, I can only fall into it all at once. And then getting back on my feet again is tricky too. I'll soon be selling that chair. Interested?

I've had 3 or 4 similar chairs in the past. Been there, done that.
Thanks anyway but I'll be upgrading to something a bit more "Hi So" for my next chair.

The one I am sat on came from a "Japanese" secondhand shop. I think 1200 Baht. It was an impulse buy. So far so good.

I had looked at a few that needed the hose clamp trick but this one doesn't need it yet.

Thanks for the helpful information. I'm thinking I might try the Herman Miller Sayl chair from 8solutions. It looks comfy and it's more affordable than the Aeron chair.

Problem with these hard plastic rollers is that these chairs don't roll

well if your tiles are not laid perfect of just a little dirt like sand.

I bought an office chair for my computer work station and have used it almost daily for more than three years. It was also totally inundated during the catastrophic floods a while back.

I cleaned it up and have been using it ever since.

Still as good as ever.

Before you buy you have to try.

Many years ago I ordered one from Lazada. Was a mistake. Not really for Me suitable. I could feel the screws through the seat's cushion.

The long lasting I bought at Index, though I think IKEA got good ones, not cheap..

I can't stand it. I have concluded that there is no such thing as an ergonomic chair.

I hate all chairs. I hate sitting in a rigid position for hours.

Right now, I set up a small desk adjacent to the bed. And I sit on the edge of the bed, but when I watch a Youtube video, I lay down on the bed. I cannot and do not like to remain seated for hours on any chair. And if you are not Working for The Man, do you really need to sit rigidly at a chair? Or is everyone just fixed in their ways?

The advantage of sitting on the edge of a bed is I can move my legs around, stretch, put one knee bent ... I keep changing positions and it's more comfortable.

My chair is going in the garbage.

Same, I only sit in a chair to eat. If not standing or walking, I'm laying in bed, like now. Against 3 pillow, back at a 120°, as 90° doesn't work for me.

Use 55" TV as monitor, about 4 meter away. Dog laying next to me, while sipping coffee. Wife will stroll by with my 2nd shortly ...

Anyone who can't sit comfortably in a modern, high quality office chair may be dealing with some health issues.

Nerves, bones, and muscles come to mind right away.

Get a neurological evaluation from a qualified doctor.

If all's well, then go for an osteopathic examinatio⁰n of your entire musculoskeletal system.

Then again, the problem may be mental.

A good first step would be to stop trolling on internet forums.

Like the OP, I've had several office chairs fail over the years. After the last failure (might've been six or seven years ago...) I decided to see what Simon at Chiang Mai Auctions had on offer. At that time, he had a dozen or so Japanese "Asahi" office chairs available, at 900 bht apiece. I bought one, and my only regret is that I didn't buy a couple more, as backups! Never an issue....

What I would not do when it comes to a chair, a sofa, a bed...I would never buy online as you need to test it first physically.

Had these kind of chairs back in the office. The back area being in some sort of net, did not hold my backbone properly and I always had a pain in the back.

Definitely mental ... but two herniated disc and five degenerative discs, tell me not to sit at 90 degrees.

I highly recommend this chair. I sit on it for over 12 hours every day, and it's very comfortable with a lot of adjustments. I've been using it for about a year, and it still looks brand new.
