Chinese man held after Bangkok knife standoff

A Chinese man and a Thai woman have been arrested after police were called to a reported assault and knife standoff at an apartment in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district on 1 September 2026.

Police said the man, identified as Mr Wang, was holding a 10-inch knife, waving it around and pressing it to his own neck while threatening to harm himself. Officers entered the room and brought the situation under control without reported injuries.

Police find ice during room search

The incident was reported at about 11.10am at room 1505 of an apartment building in Samsen Nok, Huai Khwang. The caller was Phetcharaphon, 24, from Chachoengsao province.

According to Suthisan Police, Mr Wang had allegedly assaulted the woman inside the room before officers arrived. A search later found a bag containing about 0.30 grams of crystal methamphetamine, known locally as ice, drug-taking equipment, a cream-coloured square box and the knife.

Both Mr Wang and Phetcharaphon were charged with jointly possessing a Category 1 narcotic, methamphetamine or ice.

Mr Wang was also charged with entering and remaining in Thailand without permission, police said. Both suspects were informed of their legal rights and handed to investigators at Suthisan Police Station for further legal action.

The operation was carried out under the direction of Suthisan station chief Pol Col Phonthep Chalermkiat and deputy superintendent Pol Lt Col Phitsanu Koetthong.
