Seems a bit harsh, but the Thai's do follow along with all the social media sites and they obviously don't like the stories coming out about Israeli's.

In response to recent incidents involving Israeli tourists in the Pai district of Mae Hong Son province, the Embassy of Israel in Thailand has issued a set of behavioral guidelines aimed at encouraging respectful interactions and preserving the positive image of Israeli nationals in the kingdom.

At least Thai racism leaves you under no doubt whether you are welcome or not.

If this story is real, the Thai Tour Company has every right to refuse service to anyone. I commend them for replying to the potential customers, apologizing, giving them references to other tour companies and, most of all, for telling the direct truth. They could have easily just avoided the customers, or lied to them about the reason for the refusal. Great message for Israeli tourists to receive.

If prefer when racist Jew haters aren't polite about it.

No, I think Jeff was trying to explain why Thais would be disinclined to service Israeli staff, by reference to incidents that are seen in Thai social media.

A bigot is a person who is stubbornly intolerant or hateful toward anyone with different opinions, beliefs, backgrounds, races, or religions, and this what that tour company is, you can add racist and to the above, as sadly, this is where increasingly Thai public opinions is heading as of late.

Having observed Thailand and the Thai tourism industry for decades, I don’t necessarily think what’s happening with Israeli tourists is about racism in the way people in the West generally understand it. Thai businesses tend to be very pragmatic. They want customers who are easy to deal with, who pay without problems, and who don’t bring unnecessary drama or difficulty. If a particular group develops a reputation for being difficult, fairly or unfairly, some businesses may eventually decide that the money isn’t worth the hassle. At the end of the day, the Thais in the tourism industry are simply trying to make money, not make a political statement.

We’ve seen similar things with other groups over the years. There was a time when some Thai businesses were reluctant to deal with Indian tourists, but as Indian tourism became more important and more difficult to avoid, the money changed the equation and Thai businesses became much more accommodating. And many Thais themselves go to Israel to work and have no problem working with Israelis when the money is good. If Israeli tourists were considered the easiest and most profitable group to deal with, I don’t think Thai businesses would hesitate for a second to take their money.

That’s why I think it’s important to separate discrimination from racist intent. Refusing someone because of their nationality can certainly be discriminatory, but that doesn’t automatically mean the motivation is hatred or racism. It may simply be a very Thai, very practical calculation of “Is this customer worth the trouble?” In Thailand, when it comes to business, money usually speaks louder than ideology.

What is a person called who is intolerant towards anyone with bad or destructive behavior, regardless of differing opinions, beliefs, backgrounds, races, or religions?

A booking.com listing shows a picture saying Not Recommended For Israeli Guests.
