Multiple-entry, Long Stay Visa

Featured Replies

I have a long stay, multiple entry visa. I've been in Thailand now for about two months. When I arrived, my passport was stamped for one year from that day. First question. Do I need to go to immigration before three months?

Also, I have to return home for a couple months (mid Oct.-mid Dec.) and then I want to return to Thailand. Do I have to go to immigration before I leave?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bruce

Usually for a Multiple-Entry Visa you will have to exit Thailand before 3 months has passed, then after entering Thailand again you will have to exit again before 3 new months have passed and so on....

If you have a multi entry visa you can only stay a maximum of 90 days at a time .You passport will be stamped for 90 days. Before your 90 days are up you will have to exit Thailand and come back again to get another 90 days.

From what you say you have a multi entry non immigrant O-A visa for retirement and received a one year permitted to stay stamp on arrival in Thailand. You will receive the same one year permitted to stay stamp for any entry made during the period the visa is valid. So if you plan to return before the visa itself expires you will receive a new one year permitted to stay stamp when you return (mid Dec) allowing you to stay until mid December 2008.

If, however, your visa will expire before you return you must obtain a re-entry permit to keep your current permitted to stay stamp alive.

What you need to do every 90 days is report your address to Immigration.

Most people arrive with a multi entry non immigrant O visa (not O-A) and with that you only receive a 90 day permitted to stay stamp and have to leave country and return to receive another 90 days.

To our OP. Did you apply for a visa on the grounds of RETIREMENT??

If YES, and your visa states multi-entry all you have to do is report your address to immigration every 90 days. Each time you re-enter the country you will be stamped for 1 year. After your 'must enter before' date it is vital that you get a re-entry permit to protect your current permit to stay.

If NO, then the immigration person at your entry point had made an error, you MUST go to immigration before 90 days after your entry and get this error rectified, you will have to leave and re-enter the country every 90 days. If you don't do this you leave youeself open to overstay charges.

EDIT Lopuri3 beat me to the tape by six seconds :o:)
