Min Aung Hlaing returns from Cambodia state visit

President U Min Aung Hlaing has returned to Nay Pyi Taw after a four‑day state visit to Cambodia, where he held talks with senior leaders and signed agreements aimed at deepening bilateral ties.

The delegation, which included Union ministers, regional chief ministers and senior Tatmadaw officers, departed Siem Reap on Saturday evening following a farewell ceremony attended by Cambodian officials and diplomats. On arrival in Myanmar, the President was greeted by Vice‑Presidents U Nyo Saw and Nan Ni Ni Aye, parliamentary speakers and senior military figures, alongside representatives of the Cambodian Embassy.

During the visit, Min Aung Hlaing met Cambodia’s Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Hun Sen, as well as Prime Minister Hun Manet and National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sundary. Discussions centred on strengthening political and parliamentary cooperation, expanding economic and cultural exchanges, and promoting tourism between the two countries. Both sides highlighted their shared historical experiences and reaffirmed commitments to closer partnership.

The trip also saw the signing of friendship and cooperation agreements, including the establishment of a Myanmar‑Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Association. Cambodian leaders congratulated Myanmar on its recent election, noting the presence of Cambodian observers during the polls.

Beyond official meetings, the delegation visited cultural landmarks, underscoring the emphasis on people‑to‑people ties. The state visit was marked by ceremonial welcomes, flag‑waving students and symbolic gestures of friendship, reflecting the long‑standing relationship between the two nations.

Observers say the visit signals Myanmar’s continued push to strengthen regional alliances, particularly within ASEAN, as it seeks to bolster legitimacy and expand international engagement.
