Educated woman have options- they don't have to marry the first guy that is interested in them and don't necessarily need a marriage for financial reasons. Educated women often have their own careers and aspirations, and they also realize that to move forward in their careers, they need to be able to dedicate the time and effort that men were traditionally always able to give (because thier wives were taking care of the kids and house.) Educated women realize that if they take the time away to have kids, they may lose their jobs or at least opportunities for advancement. Some still choose to have children, but may pay a price for it - that is something most men have never had to think about. In addition, in most households where both partners work (which is increasingly necessary financially) women still do the majority of the housework and child raising (if there are children.) This is changing, but still reality for many women, definitely most women here in Thailand. This means that having more kids or kids at all becomes even more of a burden on woman, who may choose to forgo or curtail this extra work by having less kids or forgoing marriageand childbearing all together. Unfortunately, educated women (and men) are often better able to educate their children, direct thier children towards more opportunities and encourage them to further thier own education be that college, trade school or internships. Whereas families with less education (again not necessarily college) and economic opportunities may have less to offer thier children. As humans, we already have plenty of people on the earth; however, declining populations can hurt nations economicly and cause social issues. I am not sure what the long term solution is....but it will have to be something that does more than just give people money or demand that women have more kids.
