Thai Airways cuts more flights as Suvarnabhumi recovers

Featured Replies

Thai Airways has announced further cancellations and timetable changes affecting domestic and international services from 1 to 3 October 2026, as it seeks to stabilise operations at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The flag carrier said the reductions are intended to give ground teams time to clear backlogs and restore aircraft rotations after severe flooding in the Bangkok metropolitan area and manpower shortages disrupted services.

Baggage backlog and recovery plan

The latest cuts follow the grounding of 37 domestic and international flights on 29 September, which left thousands of travellers stranded and put airport processing under severe pressure.

At a media briefing on 30 September, Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said military personnel had been deployed to assist ground crews. Thai Airways chief executive Chai Eamsiri said the reduced programme was deliberate, with the airline aiming to return to normal operations within seven days.

More than 10,000 baggage items were delayed between 26 and 28 September. Thai Airways said over 3,300 bags have since been reunited with passengers, while around 90 per cent of ground-service staff and 80 per cent of ramp and aircraft-handling personnel have returned to work.

For foreigners and visitors with onward domestic connections or long-haul departures, the changes mean checking bookings directly with Thai Airways before travelling to the airport. Passengers who flew with the airline between 26 and 29 September can track delayed luggage at https://baggage.airportthai.co.th.

Phiphat has also instructed the airline to keep import and export cargo services operating despite processing bottlenecks. Thai Airways apologised and said it was monitoring operations closely.
