Thought I would share this little gem with you all, I recently asked Pattaya BKK Hospital how much it would cost to have our baby delivered there.

These are the original extracts from my emails:

HOW MUCH TO HAVE MY WIFES BABY DELIVERED, SHE IS THAI AND LOCAL?

End Message.

The doctor will recommend if your wife is fit for the Delivery package.

If your wife attend her ANC in England, please bring the ANC history and record.

There are 3 Delivery package available in our facilities: Natural Vaginal Delivery, painless Vaginal Delivery and Cesarean Section.

The approximate cost of each package is 29,900 baht,34,900 baht and 39,900 baht respectively.

I thought I had lost this Email so I re-asked them 3 months on to confirm their prices and this was the reply I received:

The approximate cost of Natural Vaginal Delivery is 71,000 THB,

and Painless Vaginal Delivery is 90,000 THB,including 2 nights hospitalization, doctor fee, labour room service and

hospital service charge. For Cesarean section, the approximate cost is about 130,000 THB, including 3 nights hospitalization, doctor's fee, labour room and hospital service charge. accommodation, nursing and room service charge and meals.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that this is a slightly interesting price plan change?

I don't believe there was an increase. I believe that the first quote did not include "all" phases/costs. Probably did not include the hospital room or other doctors fees, prenatal, etc.

Come on, price of a birth, in a hospital for 29,000 baht - no way.

An aquantance has been quoted 60K for a Cesarean section for his TGF at the AEK Hospital Udon Thani toward the end of the year. That is supposed to cover all costs providing there are no complications and includs a private room.

That 130K is what you end up paying no matter what they quoted before.

When they itemize everything, down to every cotton bud they used, it just grows. There was no price increase IMO.

That's the price of Sukumvit's hospital package for C-section, but I don't know how much the bill would be in the end with them...

over here in rangsit Thammasat hospital i have been quoted 5000 baht doctors fee's so this doctor see's my wife every month until 1 week after and if my wife needs a Cesarean section 17000 baht , 3 days in hospital . normal delivery 9000 baht and 1 day in hospital .. weird or what compared to some of the price's mentioned in earlier posts

Thai International hospital(Chaweng ring road) in Samui charges 22,000 for normal birth and 39,000 for a C-section. This includes 3 nights accommodation.

Not sure if they are a member of "the crafty add on club" but at 22,000 my suspicion is that you will probably end up paying for at least a few extras.

Last week we paid 40,000 for a C section at the Chao Phya. We paid exactly what we were quoted.

The prices quoted to the op are crazy.

Wife had our baby in NSThammarat's army hospital.

Cost: 3000Bt to delivering doctor prior to birth at his clinic. He was attached to the army hospital so we went there, and saw him at his clinic leading up to the birthday.

2 nights in private room: 3000Bt.

Natural birth medication: less than 500Bt.

Total cost: change out of 6500Bt

There were helicopters at the army base if anything had gone wrong which would have airlifted us to Hat Yai hospital (about the best in the south) and my wife was the only woman in the maternity ward, so we had same as private service at a government hospital - all the staff just for us.

I was present at the delivery and had 30mins bonding time alone with my daughter while the doc and nurses cleaned my wife up - MAGIC!!!

Thoroughly recommended all round. Blew the spots of friends who'd had their kiddies at the bigger govt hospital in town, and the private one to boot. But even the private hospital charged only 40k for a C-section.

Now in Bangkok and pals who've used various hospitals locally have said it cost them from 25-80k, depending on normal or C-section choice, mostly.

Don't see why folks seem so happy to pay so much!

We have used the Bangkok/Pattaya for 5 years now and recently the prices have gone up, all the insurance policies have gone up inline with the increase from the hosipital lm lead to believe.

In the big hospitals C-section is about 10k more than natural birth at least around Pattaya.

It is common knowledge that bangkok Pattaya hospital is a rip off and has many pricing levels.

I suggest you open a thai named email and get your wife to write in Thai to request a package stating that it is for a Thai. Another ruse is to pretend to be the mother or brother of the pregnant woman and email asking what would be the price as the family is having a whip round to try and raise the cash.

I have written many times heavily commenting on the price "structure" the Pattaya Bangkok has.It is a total scam. There quoted prices are NEVER correct, the plus plusses they add just mount up to extortionate amounts. My wife & I recently had a baby there, price package 40k.Eventually the bills went up & up and finally, abt 160k later I said enough is enough, show me full break downs.I then went item by item line by line and asked them to explain everything and what I didn't understand show me the equipment etc. This caused outrage amongst the Pattaya Bangkok finance department.I stuck to my guns and eventually the hospital announced they had indeed made a mistake and overcharged me by just over 50%.Unfortunately my little boy had a couple of early problems and had to go back.I wanted a change of hospital but my wife wanted him there as she gave birth there,no problem, back we went.Firstly the finance department didn't quote a price based on what was wrong and the treatment he would have, they asked me outright how much I could afford and was prepared to pay !!! absolute criminal in my opinion.Eventually on discharging my young baby again I was faced with over 3 hours with the finance department, again going line by line, item by item, you'd think they would have learned from the last time.Surprise Surprise.....equipment charged to me and medicines, treatment etc had not been relevant and again over charging mistake was admitted, this time overcharged by over 60%.

I would quite happily go to any meeting with anyone, including Execs, finance, management of this scam of a hospital and show proof of all my over charging incidents as I kept all reciepts. The Hospital got very agressive when I refused to give them back but again I stood firm on it.Hopefully one day the 100's of people getting scammed by these criminals will stand together and show this place for what it is.It makes me physically sick to see this Dr.Ian and his ilk being the faces round Pattaya and promoting such a place when they know what goes on there.

I would like to add The treatment there is very good, and medical staff very good. It's the management of this place which ethically and morally need to take a bloody good look at themselves.

Rant over....

EPG. p.s My Baby Boy is perfectly well now. Finally a vist to Bangkok got everything sorted.

No - I lie. There was something we had that cost 15 baht, so it was 13015. Less the 500 baht discount for having a social security card. With the bag of goodies to take home. And the clothes he left hospital in. And we got 12,000 back on the social. So 515 baht.

All at Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakarin Hospital.

My Thai wife had a caesarian in Phuket International Hospital last year. Cost of the operation was 12,000 baht. Add on a few nights in their best room and all medicines and I paid 30,000 baht total....

That is very good advice, i left all the bookings etc to my wife and we paid 22000, others at the same time were quoted 35000,.i dont mind the 5 baht difference on the baht buses but thts rediculous bordering theft !

Thanks for all the replies to date,

I personally don’t believe there was an error in the pay scales emailed; I think it’s a normal reflection of prices ranges depending on our ethnicity assumed by the hospital at the time. In reflection to all of this I have decided to allow fatty and mother to sort out a pay scale and get it in writing, elevating my presence might get a more fortuitous result, I find out on Monday so I will let you all know the result asap.

Hi

the hospital may also be assuming that your insurance is paying, therefore they can quote what they like. I know a lot of expats here whose insurance will pay no questions asked. And because they want special rooms / extra days etc. they may not go for the cheaper packages available.

Good luck on getting a better quote.

Seems to me 60,000 was the total cost of a C section including 3 nights accomodation at a private Bangkok Hsopital. We went through it a couple of times. You're right sounds like a rip off down there in Patts

Two and a half years ago my wife had a C-section delivery at the private hospital in Surin. This included a VIP room for 4 nights, all food and doctor's visits etc. The Obstetrician/Gynecologist was excellent throughout the entire pregnancy and also conducted the operation and delivery. All this for less than 18,000 baht. There are some advantages to living in the country!
