I'm worried about the current visa rule changes! I'm on an ED visa, and was hoping to extend this in the next few days, but based on support of my Thai wife, (so that I can then get a WP to work in my hotel). But I also have the documents from my university to apply for a 1 year extension because I'm a student (assuming that they will still give me a 1 year????).

My urgent question is:

If I go to Suan Phu right now and manage to extend my ED visa for 1 year, (based on my university study), - am I able to 'convert' that visa extension shortly afterwards to one that is based on support of my wife - and thereby be able to apply for a WP?

Or - if I have this 1 year extension based on my university study, do I have to wait the whole year until next extension before I can apply to extend again based on support of my wife?

(In simple terms, If I do wnat I'm proposing, can I apply for a WP sooner rather than later?)

I don't know why not - you could always leave the country without a re-entry permit and have to do so in any case.
