I've downloaded webcam drivers and the problem is that when I connect the cam to install the drivers the XP installation wizzard will not allow to open the file to extract the drivers.

I downloaded into a folder but the folder does not show up on the browse table as one to open....ahhh.

Is there any other easy way?? help

I believe you've a program to uncompress the driver?! Right click on the downloaded file and check Extract (to). Connect the camera and point for the driver to the location where the extracted driver is right now! Should work!

If this not works, please post the excact Name, Model and Type of Camera you use and which driver you downloaded from where. All info related for the Camera and driver post please.

a lot of the time you need to run the extracted setup file before you actually plug in the camera

That is if the driver has it's own setup file otherwise the camera need to be connected first!

What is the file extention the file type .exe should install itself. I assume your on an win$ PC. Is it an odd .zip like .rar or something may need a extractor for that type file and could be reason name didn't show in browser its not supported maybe, but alot of free extracktors for diff kind of zip aropund. type os and file ext info helps alot.

Thanks for all the replies.

hers a bit more info that might help......................When the file was downloaded it came withits own unzip program. I unzipped and when the XP new hardware wizzard started I pointed to the unzip file on the list..........but nothing.

The read me file that came with the driver download suggested that I should locate the unzipped file when installing the drivers, but this does not show up on the browse table in the hardware wizzard.

The webcam is Trust 320spacec@m.

OK its XP and I would assume that the download was a .zip file. after download you double click the zip and it unpacks the contents. In the contents is most like to be a .exe file which if you double click will start the install which can be in a number of diff. looking forms but you normal can just let or accecpt the defaults and it will install everything. For many devices you don't want the cam plugged in until after running the install. then after a restart you can plug in the cam I assume USB and it will find it, in place of saying it found new hardware and doesn't know what to do it will take a momunt then say it ready for use. Pretty rare these day to have to run anykind is hardware wiz if you have an install download. Start from a fresh boot with out the cam plugged in and see if ya can find that .exe file that came in the zip the zip itself can't do anything its just compacks the files to make smaller download.

edit and I see ya unpacked and can't find contents that can fool ya see if you can tell where your zip program has been set up to place things from zip files that can sometimes get set to a location like temp file rather then the window you are in if instructions give a name for that file use search and see if its not somewhere else
