Before I embark on making to area outside easier on the eye with some plants in pots and maybe a few hanging baskets, for want of a better expression, I wanted to have feedback from others on this matter.

There are a few clay pots nearby that have various green things growing, some have pink flowers, and my first thoughts were to take a few pictures and ask at the garden center down the road for more of them - on the basis that they have grown before in the heat here etc etc.

The only plant I know the Thai name of is Keem (?) - I've seen it in red and yellow varities used as low hedging and would love that if it grows in a container, thoughts anyone?

Otherwise to add to my reading (searching of this forum) could anyone offer a few names (links to pictures) of plants that might be suitable. I like plants with red flowers, white flowers or even red & white flowers, am I too fussy?

I guess that many native Thai flowering plants can cope with a few days drying out if they are shallow rooted naturally - I do not want to have to worry if the hired help "forgets" to water them each day, and I don't want to install an automated watering system.

Thanks in advance.

Dok Kem is Ixora It comes in a miniature form --often used as hedging-- in red, white, pink and yellow. There is also a larger form, much taller and more shrubby--with larger leaves. Also in the same colors. The white flowered large shrub is very fragrant. Here is a Florida site that gives very good info about growing them. But they are not fussy and quite tough.

The miniature ones are very good for potted plants--also for baskets is Vinca (Catharanthus roseus) also called Madagascar Periwinkle--they sell them in baskets or you can buy seeds from home. They grow very easily and seem to come true from seed. There have been many colors developed and they are quite tough. very heat tolerant and drought tolerant but in a basket they do need to be watered regularly.

This is the common plant, pretty much considered a weed in Thailand. But as I said, many more colors have been developed and it is quite suitable for your needs.

I think its called pang puey farang in Thai but not sure as we use a different word where I live.
