German tourist detained after refusing to pay bar bill

Said he’d rather go to jail

PATTAYA: -- A German tourist identified only as Frank was arrested after drinking in a Beach Road bar and refusing to pay his bill. The bar owner called police to detain the man. Apparently he wanted his girlfriend to pay his 200 baht debt for alcohol and cigarettes.

German Frank decided he’d rather go to jail than pay his 200 baht bar tab. Police were happy to oblige.

Officers arrived at the bar to find the 36-year-old German in a state of inebriation and causing quite a ruckus. They escorted him to Soi 9 for further questioning.

The obstinate European refused to give his surname to police, stating that his passport was in his hotel room and that he had no funds to pay his bill. Frank also said if police wanted to lock him up they could ahead as he would wait for his girlfriend to pay his debt to the bar.

Without hesitation officers provided a free room at the lockup and charged him with failing to pay his debt for food and drink.

He is either drunk very fast (200 Baht :o ) or he was very drunk before going to that bar.

Maybe the poor guy had been bar hopping w/ his GF, getting ripped off, pissed off and drunk; the last tab was more than he could handle and he just didn't give a <deleted> anymore....

I'm afraid you're right.

Does not make him any smarter,... :o

I think this is more of a drinking problem than whether he is smart enough to know that it is better to pay a 200B tab than go to jail. The man was probably insanely drunk...well, maybe emotionally disturbed, just plain crazy, or any combination of the three. :o

It was his bill, his drink tab, the money he owed for what he had received!

It was not a fine period. I hope that if he was fined it would have been a <deleted> lot more than 200 Baht.

Apart from the 'fine' bit,I agree with your other sentiments.

He was certainly no relation of the guy who developed the V1/V2 anyways :o

I know--an inadvertant (right spel?) mistake on my part. :o

Hey Fox, an invitation to the Hilton surely will change this mans mind so full of the spirits awful quick, and whooooooosh out comes the 200 B in record time.

Also if there are such SS Gestapo's around (the real McCoys) of today, he wouldn't even make it to their headquarters. He would be found floating down the river.

Daveyo :o

Emotionally disturbed, you said?

Do not let him get close to any high floor balcony, please.

I'm sure he believes he can fly,... :o

Please fellow Nobel-prize winners; a little bit more mercy!

You are reacting on a version of what really happened.

Right is not always right and wrong is not always wrong.

Tourists make mistakes, sometimes very stupid ones.

Believing everything you read is a mistake (and stupid as well).

You are right, Daye Yo, this Hauptmann has not heard of Bangkok Hilton.

If this Hauptmann (of the Gestapo or the SS), had visited the Hilton, he

would never never touch cheese ever again...... let alone not paying for it.

As I have said, he still has the Gestapo and SS mentality. Maybe Hauptmann

is a wacko or both.

In a hurry, I should have said " he would never never touch alcohol and cigarettes ever again " and not cheese. Sorry for the error.

It happens sometimes. But if it is going to be a pattern you should pay attention to it. Put on your sturm-staffel and off you go. One-two, one-two, one-two, here comes Fox, he wears no sox. And after his daily drill he pays his bill.
