All major groups that wanting to invest in Thailand are hesitance due to an overriding attraction to the Vietnam market, said a leading businessman from Thailand's Amata Corporation.

In an interview with The Nation's economic supplement, Viboon Kromadit, Director and Senior Vice-President of sales and marketing, stressed that in terms of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), Vietnam is one of the most attractive destinations in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam is an "emerging star" of the region thanks to policies and lower labour costs, added Viboon, a Thai businessman who has experience in operating in Vietnam.

FDI in Vietnam sharply increased to US $10.2 billion in 2006 from US $5.3 billion in 2005. In the first half of this year, the country attracted US $8.32 billion, the Thai paper said.

Mid,

have you seen how the listed exchange works in VN? It is old fashioned, you can't make trades yourself, you have to call a broker on the trading floor.

If you think that the Thai SET is a bit of a casino, I'd argue that heading to Poipet for the afternoon and having a flutter is safer than the VN borse.
