Anybody with experience posting cash guaranteeing the return of Thai from US to get US Tourist Visa?

I am feeling stuck in Thailand because I want to be with my 27 year old Thai girlfriend who I am in love with. I am here from USA on a tourist visa, age 48, living on money from past business efforts. I just made my first 30 day visa run, and getting a longer visa to be here will be the topic of another posting from me. We met in April 2004 while I was on vacation. I made it back here in mid June, and moved her in with me in a nice serviced apartment in Bangkok. We've been together a total of about 70 days.

I want to get her a tourist visa to the US, so we can at least spend some time over there, and let her take a look at what life would be like there. I want to introduce her to my mother, and win her approval for a 2005 marriage. I want to show her California, Arizona, Washington state, and Oregon. I want to introduce her to my family and friends. She is unemployed, but has 150,000 Bhat in the bank which I gave her. She has a 4 year old daughter here, a mother, and numerous brothers and sisters. Her daughter is living with the father’s mother, because of economics, and grandma’s loving care. My girlfriend has never been married. She has no college education, and no job.

From reading the US embassy web site, I gathered getting her a tourist visa was most unlikely. Then a local farang professor he knew of one success involving posting cash guaranteeing her return in the amount of 100,000 Bhat. I would be willing to post 400,000 Bhat if it bought us liberty to travel together to the US on tourist visas.

I am in the process of getting divorced, so I understand that precludes me from going the fiancée route until the divorce is final sometime in January 2005.

I welcome opinions, comments, and contact possibilities offering any hope of securing entry into the US with my girlfriend.

I'm a Brit living in HK married to a Thai - wife just got a 10-yr multi entry visa for US from HK Consulate, you'll find my experience posted on P2 of this topic. The process may be helpful.

Never heard of the cash guarantee thing. From what other posters have previously said I think your 70 day relationship may not be long enough for imm. officers to grant you a visa - they normally talk about 6 months min. with clear evidence. Maybe you need to be patient until Jan.

well donbury..

I hope you take this in the spirit that it is intended..

many guys come to thailand and fall in love with the place and the girls. Its that sort of place--i've done it also. Now perhaps you are an experienced traveller and have seen other places and understand the complications that can arise. But I would be concerned if april 2004 was your first trip to thailand.

there are a few warning signs in your post...firstly you have spent around 70 days with your girlfriend, and now you would like to take her to the USA prospectively to marry her.

secondly, you have already transfered 150,000 baht into her account..

thirdly, she has no college education, no job, never been married and a 4 year old child who lives with her grandmother.

so what has she been doing to support herself?

now probably some posters will follow up and tear at me for being cynical..perhaps more sceptical...and i probably am. I just felt someone ought to say something as to the potential downside of this type of relationship.

donbury..i hope you have found the girl of your dreams and that after some period of time, and i feel sure it will take that to convince an embassy to give her a visa to the US, that everything works out great for you.

I am sure it has been a success for many people, but you need to be aware that situations can be more complicated than they first seem.

chok di...

Sorry, but from the sounds of it your gf's chances are zero until you actually marry her. There is no such thing as posting a cash guarantee with the embassy.

Your girl friend must convince her interviewer to reverse the interviewers legally mandated bias against granting a visa with "compelling reasons" to return to Thailand.

You have advanced none, although your story is touching and romantic.

Only Way your bringing her to the US is marrying her, My Cousin just came on a tourist visa and she said that immigration was relentless towards her and that was just a tourist visa. I live in florida Thai man. It is getting harder and harder to get into the US. Unless your from cuba You set foot on florida and you have a ticket to stay

Sorry Man, you should wait until you divorce and marry your girlfriend better do it before another terror attack on the US When that happens Nobody is getting in for a long time.

at the risk of sounding like an ###### ,i will say this . stop and think !! we all understand the "unemployment " issue . you have known this girl for 70 days ,and you have already put 150,000 baht into hre account !! you are going to whisk her away to another country ,when you hardly know her . slow down ,take some time to think things through and get to know each other . farang thai relationships take some time to adjust to . why dont you stay here instead , and that way you dont have to rush ,you will also learn many things about her and her culture . just my humble opinion . i certainly intend no offence . good luck .

Thanks for all the rapid replies. It is very reassuring to know you are out their, and so willing to offer some guidance to the newbie.

I detect valuable wisdom in the numerous responses, and I will proceed with cautious optimism, as I settle down in Bangkok, and get to know my sweetheart better.

There are definitely plenty of challenges in adjusting to the Thai/Farang relationship, many rooted in the language barrier.

You can bet I will be on the forum with plenty more questions, and hope to serve a newbie one day in the same spirit you've exhibited.

Don't mean to be cynical or brutal but why not test the waters some and see if you can take your Baht 150 K back(that you "gave" her), invent some reason why you need it back. Some excellent advice passed your way in this forum, slow down a bit I say.

There are no provisions in US immigration law to allow a foreigner entry because of a "bond" which is what you are describing.

If that were possible, the line formed starting in China would circle the globe several times.

Mr Vietnam :o

I wouldn't fancy your chances much with this but good luck
