I want to fly from Shanghai to Hong Kong one-way next May 1 (now that's planning in advance). Do you have any recommendations for on-line fares, low priced ones? Also, can I get a good price if I go to a travel agent here in Pattaya or Bangkok?

the best way for one way cheap flights are budget airlines.

check skyscanner.com for connections and book online as soon as the fares are available. Depending on the airline they might be selling tickets only 6 months in advance.

I just went to Skyscanner.Com; they had flights from Shanghai, but only to The Philipines, Italy and the UK.

If you want a cheap flight which is not departing from Bangkok, you'll have to either look online or check with an agent in the country of departure. Try to buy that ticket in Bangkok and you will likely pay full fare because of the way things work, not because anyone is trying to rip you off.

How about taking the train? 100ish USD, but you get to see some of the country along the way.
