Family Visa

Featured Replies

Can anyone help with my question. I have been on an non-immigrant B visa for a few years. But after having a baby have stopped working. My daughter has duel nationalilty as was born in Thailand and her father it Thai. I am a UK citizen. We have returned to the UK for 6 months but will be returning back to Thailand in January. My partner has a UK resident visa, and we applied for a visa for me to return to Thailand. I was told that because we are not married it is more difficult for me to get a long term visa. I have been given the option of a family O visa - but want to know am I allowed to work in Thailand on this visa. Or is there a better visa I should try to apply for. We are planning to stay in Thailand for the most-part and just return to the UK one a year to visit family. My daughter has a Thai birth cert. but a UK passport, I was told she can not hold a Thai passport because we are not married. If we marry does it really make a difference to long term stay.

Thanks for any info

Yes you can work with this type of visa.

It would be easier if you were married in most cases as your husband "to be" is Thai for a long term permit unless you work for an established firm and get a extension of stay permit based on business.

Nikisue, just remember that you need a work permit, too. With the non-O visa you can apply for a work permit, with the work permit you are allowed to work.

My daughter has a Thai birth cert. but a UK passport, I was told she can not hold a Thai passport because we are not married. If we marry does it really make a difference to long term stay.

Can I ask who told you this? If your daughter has a Thai BC and it says on the BC that she is a Thai national (top right hand corner) then she should be entitled to a Thai PP.

It does make a difference if you are married however. I have a Thai PP and my wife is non-Thai. Being married allows you to get a non-immigrant O easily, and this is easily extendable for a year in Thailand, so there is no need to do visa runs. My daughter also has Thai and foreign passports, though we both had to sign for them.

With a non-immigrant O visa, you can get a work permit should you decide to work.
