Hello all,

I have just moved to Samui and have my animals flying in in 2 days-7 cats and 3 dogs. Is it possible to buy dog kennels here?? I asked an American friend here and he told me to watch the Thai faces when asking for houses for my dogs!!!! A couple of the reactions were quite funny, but I still need kennels!! Can they be bought here anywhere, or would I be better off getting some Thai chap to knock a couple up for me out of timber? Any help would be great!!

I know I know- a house for a dog in Thailand!!!!

But I do need them!!! :o

Cheers

Sandy,

I haven't seen any on the island. You are better off getting them made, quicker & simpler.

Roo speaks true: get them made -- open fencing for walls and a covered roof. Hope you have a fan for each one and you're not bringing pit bulls.

Thanks for the help. No pit bulls!!! One Alaskan Malamute x Siberian Husky-shaved and looking ridiculous, one Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Border Collie and one Maltese x Pomeranian!!! Plus the seven Himilayan Persian cats-they all use my house as theirs, and don't go outside ever-legacy of Australian wildlife protection laws-plus they are each worth AUD1,000!!!

Thanks again for the help

Oh, nice dogs. I hope you let them in aircon sometimes, but definitely get kennel fans for them. Don't tell the neighbours or anyone how much your kitties are worth or they might go missing! Have fun!

I guess the next fairly obvious question would be where would I get kennel fans???

Hi SandyfromSamui

You can just go buy some of those cheap stand or wall mount fans from Blotus ( Lotus Tesco Shopping Center ) or a local house electrics shop. Dogs love them. Many of our local strays enjoy the odd afternoon lazing on my balcony under the wind from a cheap stand fan.

For the dog homes it will be quite easy to find a local tradey to build them for you and they should not cost much.

You could build Aussie style stand alone boxes, up on legs, all wood with a tin roof.

If you need to lock 'em up then build a small wire mesh wall compound for them. You could then build some "rooms" off that and set the fans up in some waterless area.

And sure, like another poster said, do not tell anybody how much the cats are worth or for sure they will end up at some market on the mainland.

Welcome to Samui, hope you enjoy your time here. Say "hi" to the dogs and cats from me, ok mai?

Please keep you cat's locked up, other people's cat's have destroyed so many native animal's around my house that I'm lucky now to see any squirrels and the bird numbers are down also, as for cat's keeping the rat population down that's bull <deleted>.

there is a place on the lake raod oppostie tesco lotus. i bought a steel dog kennel there. about 3500. heavy you would need some sorte of a truch to transport it.

if you own a house you are better getting some custom built with drainage for dog key and concrete floor.

thats what idid not too expensive.
