September 23, 200718 yr Author Where is it held? It's held at Bangkok Drag Avenue, near a place called Khlong Ha in Pathum Thani. Map is attached as a .png file. Edited September 23, 200718 yr by matter
September 23, 200718 yr Lots of lov for the RB and 2jz huh? Too bad you couldn't get a 351 pinto or something like that over here, it would be a hilarious sight to see.
September 23, 200718 yr Author Lots of lov for the RB and 2jz huh? Too bad you couldn't get a 351 pinto or something like that over here, it would be a hilarious sight to see. There are a few American V8's driven by some old Thai guys, but they just come on at the end of some of the competitions as a bit of a crowd pleaser!
October 21, 200718 yr Author We will be up at Bangkok Drag Avenue next weekend. This Goodyear racing truck will be making it's first passes. It's running the AEM engine management system, so we'll be up there tuning it.
October 25, 200718 yr I'll be up in Chiang Mai then, bugger Relax, Jim! Let 'em all bring 'em all up to Chiang Mai!! Low cost weekend - plus REAL Thai smiles!!
October 31, 200718 yr Do they also run any drag bikes? Is the start a normal christmas tree? Is it a prepared track? Thank you Jim
November 1, 200718 yr Its a prepared track with christmas tree and digital timing. The stands are good and a few good food stalls with cold beer. There is an upstairs A/C bar too with dancing girls sometimes:)
November 1, 200718 yr Definitely want to make the Dec 1 & 2 meet. Is there a nice hotel near the track?
November 2, 200718 yr Author Do they also run any drag bikes? Is the start a normal christmas tree? Is it a prepared track?Thank you Jim Jim They do not run drag bikes. However the track is very professional with proper staging used for all the passes. The track surface is made from exactly the same specifications that the professional US tracks use. The track's technical advisor is a guy from the States.

November 29, 200718 yr I don't know much about drag racing, but an American buddy of mine who's been here for years (speaks fluent Thai) is into car mods and drag racing. Some of the horsepower these small (compared to US standards) engined cars put out is incredible. "Souped up" to me could mean factory Japanese cars that have been modified or are these custom built racers and "souped up" just means ready for action? I'm also curious as to the drivetrain setup...are they front or rear wheel drive? I would imagine anything over 300 hp would need to be rear wheel drive, otherwise it would be nearly impossible to control due to torque steer.
November 29, 200718 yr Apologies for my previous post...those cars are all RWD and some are FWD...missed the details when I scanned over those car photos. Now I know the answer, and from that I would imagine they are also custom built which takes care of question one.
November 29, 200718 yr I will be there... I think the record will be beaten this year, as i saw the Ram77 car do a sub 8 second 2 weekends ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWeV_lDcHfI

Which is why the Cefiero & Skyline GT's are the favorite cars to build. They rip out the interiors & install roll cage. The favorite motor is the Totota 3 liter twin cam twin turbo. (2JB or something like that). Some of these guys get 600 to 800 horsepower out of them. Then they strap on NOS. Mazda RX-7 Rx-8 & Toyota Supra's are also RWD. Mitsubishi 3000 GT are AWD. There is a tuner shop close to me & they put these motors in Mercedes, Volvo BMW & all sorts. Edited November 29, 200718 yr by dotcom

November 30, 200718 yr Interesting....I found out about the Cefiro being RWD by seeing the hood up on a standard one at shop. I can see why it's popular among many guys when it comes to racing...the drivetrain setup is already there. I think the 600-800hp output that you mention must really be hard on the chassis, considering that they're not built with big engines (by US standards) to start with...correct me if I'm wrong. With the addition of NOS, it must be like flying a fighter jet. Is NOS really big here? I figure it must be HUGE in the States...particularly after "The Fast And The Furious" came out or perhaps it's always been a big part of drag racing? I didn't know the Mitsubishi 3000 GT is AWD...I believe that's the setup for rally racing cars too. I knew a guy in high school that had one; good looking car. Here in Thailand, a 3 liter engine is considered "big" for a regular car, but in the States, it's only average. My father once raced Chevy Cameros which were built in the 80's. I think they had 5 liter engines..V8's of course. They weren't super quick off the line, but they did move at a good pace down the road and on top of that, those cars were built like tanks! They could take a REALLY good beating according to my father. With the cost of fuel these days and being here in Thailand, an 80's era Camero would be out of the question. Too bad though...bet those aggressive taxi drivers in BKK would give you a wide berth!
