After spending all morning looking for flights from Newcastle & Manchester (UK) to BKK for this month I was being quoted £632 upwards. What a rip off!!

A year I paid £350 ! I understand about inflation and increases but this increase is ridiculous.

I checked the internet and talked to various people including someone at DialaFlight who gave me the same info - £632 upwards :o

So, I checked through my computer files and found the number of a guy I dealt with a year ago. Talked to him (Simon at DialaFlight) and got a ticket out from MAN for under £500.

So, persistence pays off at the end of the day :D

after a few hours of searching I have found a xmas fare £500 cheaper than the next regular cheapest available fare - and I don't have to pay for it till the beginning of november.

yes, I did have to make several phonecalls to check whether tha fare was still available, I will have to get 2 chinese visas and yes, I will have to wait for the connecting flight some 9h - but otherwise it would mean xmas at home.

there are some chances that the airfare to bkk will fall within the next month or two - as a lot of airlines are thinking introducing more regular flights on that route. Competition between them will take care of prices, I hope

Did you not try China Airlines? They are pretty cheap from Newcastle.

TBH I had no idea that China Airlines flew from Newcastle. But now I know, I will look at them in future. Thx.

Strange that no web site I looked at listed them.

All the others were in that £632 + bracket and more from Newcastle.

The flight I have from MAN leaves evening so is ok for travel, better than the usual morning flight that meant leaving home the night before :o

China Airlines fly from Amsterdan but have a deal with KLM to fly you from Newcastle without the need to check in again at Schipol - Your luggage is checked straight through and you are issued both boarding passes in Newcastle.

iirc china airlines to BKK leaves schiphol early afternoon so if you are considering them for next time you might need an early start. depends on newcastle connection times.

I flew with them once and had to get a 6.15am flight from aberdeen. I'm not too keen on 4am check-ins or mid-afternoon long hauls (no sleep). :o

other than that, they were ok. :D

09:55 from Newcastle for your connection if memory serves me right. Not too early. :o

that's not too bad. certainly better than the ABZ connection.

Yeah, 06:15 is a bit of a pi$$er but I am sure you will agree Amsterdam is a far more pleasant airport to transit than Heathrow, even if it does add an extra couple of hours to your trip.

Did some price checking for China Airlines and they also come in at well over the £600 mark. Seems I got a good deal after all.

I will also get nearly 13,000 airmiles added to my account with Etihad.

October is not the best month to want to travel to Thailand. Seems it is not the UK flights outbound that are full, it is the second leg flights that are full from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

I am just happy I have a date set now to get back to Thailand. 10 days here already and it seems like months.

China have been flying out of Newcastle for many years, not actually their plane you take the KLM out of Newcastle and connect at Amsterdam used to be nice times as well 10.30am pick up the 2.30pm flight. Theres a company called Freedom Flights they now operate outside of Newcastle somewhere like Ouston I think, we used to pay around 350 to 500 depending on the season.

I think you'll find that whilst this year's fares are higher and isgnificantly so in some cases, paying 350 all in presumably last year was a bargain. I would have thought a normal 500 or so would have been the regular discounted ticket.

I got all in on Etihad for £431.40. Booked in July07 for travel 5/10 retn 14/10. Booked with ebookers. Now looking for a 6 month price from November as I may have a job in BKK starting then. Great airline, great prices!!

Well, this time I paid £498 and that is £100 less than Etihad themselves wanted. Last year must have been a good deal. Have a friend who is travelling over and he is now on the same flight. He had the same problems as I did getting a good price until I put him onto Simon at DialaFlight.

I looked at plenty of web prices but when phoning the price is rarely the same. So, I cannot complain AND I will be in Thailand for November for 6 months :o

Better than cold, wet, very expensive England LOL

Roll on sunshine and smiles.

from the uk you have to add as least 50 pounds due to mr brown and the departure tax included over the past year
