My family and I are US citizens and carry a US Passport. As such, we are entitled to a complimentary 30 day VISA stamp upon entering Thailand. I understand, however, that we must have a return ticket or proof of onward travel which people say must be an airline ticket. We will not have a return ticket and we will be traveling to Laos after Thailand and plan to cross over land at the Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai. We will have an airline ticket leaving Laos but not one that shows a departure out of Thailand. Will this be sufficient proof? Will the airline that we board to get to Thailand (coming from Inida) give us a hard time about this? If someone could please help clarify this for me I would appreciate it. Thank You

For visa exempt entry (what you plan) you are required to have a confirmed ticket out within 30 days (you don't mention if ticket out of Laos is within that time period and it would be up to officers as to acceptance in any case). Airline is very likely to refuse to allow you to board as this is also being checked at immigration desks at airport these days. You should have a ticket or a visa.

Get a visa to be absolutely sure, as your ticket out of Laos doesn't count. Or contact your airline and find out IF they will let you board on these conditions.

Hello,

USA citizen here arriving in Thailand next month from Europe without onward or return ticket. I've been living in Prague and went to the Royal Thai Embassy here asking for a 6 month validity, 2 entry, 90 day tourist visa. They asked for all of the documents proving that I have lived here for the last two years, copies of bank statements, etc. No problem with any of those. They also asked for a letter of explanation why I want the visa. Any advice on what in particular I should state in the letter? Thanks in advance.

Write the truth. As you are applying for a tourist visa, the reason for your visa application is obviously “to travel to Thailand twice during the next six months for the purpose of tourism”

As a follow up to my last post I have one more question. In preparing the visa application there are two items that I am unsure how to answer and unfortunately they are not very helpful here. 1. Length of stay in Thailand. Do I put 60 days per entry? As i understand it, the visa I am applying for is 60 days with the possibilty of one 30 day extension per entry. and 2. Local guarantor in Thailand and address. What is this?

Any advice/help would be much much appreciated! Thanks so much.

The application form is a common one for ALL visa types.

Non Immigrant visas require letters of guarantee,

IME Tourist Visas do not.

Just leave it blank.
