Fire destroys school building in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI: -- A school building in Mae On was burnt down late Friday night, police said.

The fire broke out at the wooden building of the Ban Huaykaew School in Moo 5 village of Tambon Huaykaew at 20 minutes after midnight.

The school janitor, Opas Inta, told police that he was waken up by the sounds of roof tiles cracking so he ran out of his living quarter and found that the building, which housed the library and two fifth-grade classes, was on fire.

The fire quickly engulfed the entire building, he told police.
