"Orthography" ? Do you mean "spelling"? :o

That Thai spelling is correct, but as often happens with computerized programs, the phonetic guide is way off the mark. The word is pronounced "penguin."

(The program is mindlessly following a basic Thai construction rule for a word that it does not recognize, and in which case the rule does not apply. One should be wary of such Romanized pronunciation guides. Even the otherwise-excellent site thai-language.com suffers badly from the same type of flaw: proper dictionary entries must be compiled by capable human brains.)

Althpough the latter dictionary does render "phaehnM gwinM". That seems pretty close to the English, no?

Right you are, in this case.

But there are hundreds of examples on other words that are simply wrong, because they are transcribed by some program.

Yet, I am and shall always be a huge fan of thai-language.com

Yes, I should've checked the other site ( http://thai-language.com/id/136437 ) when I thought the pronunciation looked wrong. The g/f has just confirmed it's pronounced the same as in English.

Does anyone know if Mike at Thai2English is still looking after the site? I've tried a couple of times to submit corrections using the link at the bottom of the page, but it gives a "404 Not found" error.

Thank You jetsetBKK.
