No problems last week in Hanoi...very civilized, quiet embassy with nice staff. Next afternoon pick-up, no need to show onward ticket from Thailand / hotel booking. Enjoy!

I believe tickets to Thailand are required for visa issue in Vietnam however.

I looked into both airlines and Nok Air has other charges that make it more expensive than Airasia, but both specials are still very cheap.
