Need A Visa For 4 Months

Featured Replies

Hello Im 23 and from the UK.

I plan on backpacking around Thailand for 4 months and recently found out that a Tourist Visa would be too short for this.

I've looked into the 12 month multi-visa but have read that they are only given out to students/work/family.

Is there another Visa or solution to my problem, I dont mind crossing the boarders to extend my stay.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, tried to look it up.

Get a double entry tourist visa and cross a border once. That will enable 2 x 60 day stays. Each entry can be ( if required ) extended by 30 days at an Immigration Office in Thailand.

Once you cross a border your tourist visa entry ends - but the good news is that you receive 30 days visa exempt entry on your return. This is limited to 90 days in a six month period so as long as you do not leave before using a little more than a month of your tourist visa entry you should be safe. But as said a two entry tourist visa may satisfy your needs and with your itinerary should not be a problem to receive and will provide more flexibility in your travels.

If you plan on staying in Thailand the whole time, I would get a double entry tourist visa, and just do one border run, depending on where you are after the first two months, do a border run to the nearest country, if in the south, Malaysia offers visa free entry for UK citizens, Cambodia will cost USD20 for a visa, Laos USD35, Burma 10 USD.

Another option is to get a single entry, do an extension (1900 baht) and get a visa exempt stamp for your last month, but this will be more expensive as the first option, as for the exempt stamp, you don't pay, but you do pay for the trip to the border and three out of four countries charge for VOA.
