Committee has not concluded Phuket aircrash probe

BANGKOK: -- Despite earlier news, Friday's meeting of the fact finding committee probing last month's Phuket air crash did not as yet conclude a decision of the actual and definite cause of the One-Two-Go disaster at Phuket International Airport, which left 90 passengers and crew dead.

Aviation Department director-general Chaisak Angsuwan chaired Friday's meeting as assigned by Chaisawat Kittipornpaiboon, Permanent Secretary for Transport, head of the fact-finding committee.

Mr. Chaisak said there was no official conclusion during the meeting Friday, but that the committee is awaiting additional flight data recorders from the US-based National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and more information on the aircraft model and possible defects from the Boeing company, the manufacturer of the aircraft.

However, he said wind shear or cross-currents, with the sudden change of wind speed and direction, is a partial cause of the accident.

According to a report from Thursday, the initial investigation from collating the information and collecting circumstantial evidence and the black box data showed that wind shear hit the aircraft while it was approaching to land, causing the aircraft to skid off the runway and crash into wooded embankment.

Not to mention that the pilot should have waited or diverted,

instead of landing in such appalling weather conditions...............

Take a look at http://www.airdisaster.com/news/article.php?id=18, it definitely was a MD-82 and that plane is not manufactured by Boeing, is it?

More about the plane on http://www.airdisaster.com/cgi-bin/search_...gi?search=md-82

McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing in 1997.

Yep, all of that data on the black box is purely circumstantial mumbo jumbo which has nothing to do with what actually caused it... :o
