Since McGriffith and I were asked to take on the mod role of the Chiang Rai forum we have very specifically done it with a hands off approach. We have encouraged the members to post and to a greater extent given the forum a freer run. You should be aware that several posts in any other forum would have resulted in suspension or even banning. We have argued for allowing threads continue but under close scrutiny. That said I wish to reiterate that ThaiVisa has rules and they are enforced.

All of you should already know them because they are self explanatory. Simply put they are play nice and have fun. They do not allow defamatory or abusive posting. On ThaiVisa we strictly adhere to the concept of using a log in name and not disclosing the real identity or details of any member. Often as a result of posting and living in the same community we get to meet and know eachother. Sometimes we become friends but for most people the forum is a place to meet in private. To that point anyone who posts any private details of another member will be banned from Thai Visa.

The other point I wish to point out is that if at any time you read a post that in your opinion is not acceptable, hit the report button and put in a short explanation what it is about and why you are reporting it. The report is sent to all the relevant moderators who are on line at the time and they will investigate it. The moderator will make a decision whether to make it invisible from view, delete it, edit it to remove parts of the post, or close the thread.

If you wish to discuss something with any of the moderating team that is to do with posts or rulings send them a PM - do not start up a thread about it in the forum. If a moderator does something to one of your posts they will normally send you a PM to advise you of the fact. However if you are not sure why they did something discuss it by PM. Most Mods will explain their actions as long as you are civil and abide by the rules.

regards

CB, can you point to those threads so that I (we) know where the boundaries are?

This will likely get me in trouble .. but you're coming off just a bit like a Corporal with new stripes.

Well that's what they are Klik; personally I welcomed the new moderation, I thought that things were getting out of hand and the Chiang Rai forum was in danger of extinction. A number of regular posters were dropping away or posting less and I also wanted people protected who I thought were being abused outside the rules of TV.Com. The only way to stop this with a moderator. I realise there were some complaints about outsiders being brought in but that's fairly normal for TV.

Where's Tayto gone anyway?

I'm pretty confused. It's one thing when a moderator says, "don't do so-and-so", but when I read," You should be aware that several posts in any other forum would have resulted in suspension or even banning.", it makes me wonder which and for what reason. Examples are sterling .. and helps me to understand how a moderator interprets the rules.

I don't recall writing that moderation is wrong.

I took a bit of issue with CB's lecture. I stopped enjoying them about 40 years ago.

I don't like lectures or control, but many posters have 'gotten away with murder' on this site

and like cowards have hidden behind anonymity to attempt avoiding accountability.

I've had at least 3 people say derogatory things about me or my business

or to defame. They are too afraid to:

1) let people know who they are (but its too late for that)

2) state their true agenda

3) reply directly to the person or biz they are defaming

It was cowardly hit and run stuff.

TV has refused to continue to be part of that.

And I appreciate it. The people that don't do those things

won't be affected. Like Klikster and Secaundengadegangagunda - or however you spell it!

Like I said, I don't like extreme control, but something had to be done , and I don't miss

those that left. They were destructive to this on line community.

5) Discussion of moderation issues, actions or moderation policies concerning individual cases are not allowed in the forums. Such comments should be directed to a moderator or administrator, and not discussed on the forum.

Which is what we're doing now of course.

But...

DISPUTES.

Thaivisa.com shall be the sole arbiter of what is and is not a violation of these acceptable use policies. We reserve the right to terminate an account at any time and for any reason that causes harm to any other. We reserve the right to delete all content and files on our server and in our databases at any time for any reason. Thaivisa.com reserves the right to refuse, cancel, or suspend service at our sole discretion.

So they can pretty well do what they please.

What is this guy on about for chrissakes.

If you want to complain about a member and his posts, why don't you take it up with him in a PM, and I'm sure if you are polite and respectful you will get a reply.

We as members are well aware of the rules as we were advised to read them a long time ago when we joined. So unless there has been a rule change , I do not ( as I'm sure others will agree ) see the need for you to throw out vague threats to the forum as a whole.

You started this thread so now you can't stop people from responding.

Happy bloody birthday :o

ETA :-Sorry scudea our posts crossed.

If you are referring to my post then it should be fairly obvious. It was a series of general statements on what is acceptable behaviour on a public forum.

No member was targetted nor was any thread.

Sometimes we all need to be riminded of the rules. People forget or ignore them when they get caught up in a thread. No threat was made to the forum either vague or overt.

You started this thread so now you can't stop people from responding.

You and several others have replied and I haven't closed it, nor do I intend to.

Ah but sometimes the petty bickering and backstabbing was amusing, fun and a real laugh!

like when a bookstore chain operator in CM attacked our wonderful, local guy...

too bad that it all must stop, but defamation and slander are illegal (and should be)

I'll miss the fireworks though. Sometimes they really got posts going!

a positive attitude makes for a bright day... :bah::o:D:o:D:D:bah::D

CB, can you point to those threads so that I (we) know where the boundaries are?

two are obvious:

1) the thread about CM taking over CR criticised TV moderators and policy which is against the rules.

2) the thread (and subsequent others) about the local CR magazine. There were personal attacks on the magazine and the owner/editor. These attacks were unsubstantiated and under the TV rules of personal flaming of a member not allowed. Several members were sent PMs by the moderators requesting that they tone down the comments. One member was suspended for restarting new threads about the magazine, despite being told to cease.

This will likely get me in trouble .. but you're coming off just a bit like a Corporal with new stripes.

Nope I don't mind you writing it, I got over getting new stripes many years ago when I got them for real and then traded up to pips and subsequently crowns. :o

You bring this up over and over, but you seem to forget that you lost the argument. I said that your local guy knows very little about books and "defamation and slander" only apply when something is said that is not true. :o

Actually not correct UG - defamation and slander only apply in a court of law between litigants, not on a public forum such as Thai Visa. I am sure you will understand how difficult it is for a business owner or private person to have others post or say things which you cannot or choose not to defend.

I would prefer if you let this subject go please.

thanks

...and I quote one of the true shining examples of our day:

"Can't we all just get along?" - Rodney King :o

Did he say that before or after he got the living shit beaten out of him?

Posted (edited)

I think it went like this.

In my home town LA:

He got beat up by cops and it was on video.

The cops all got off without being disciplined.

The black population of the city flipped out and many

portions of the city were on fire for days.

He went on TV to ask people to calm down and that was his famous line.

A short time later he was arrested for (I think) drunk driving and

soliciting a lady of the evening.

I apologize if I am slandering Rodney! :D

Any way to get immunity with TV staff? :o

No problem, however, I didn't bring it up. :D

They started it! :D

I never knew that you were such a funny guy.

You have quite the sense of humor until someone brings up anything to do with you or your publication. :D

I'm confused....we are not supposed to discuss moderators or moderation issues and yet a moderator starts a topic about discussing moderation issues....are we allowed to discuss these things here?...is this thread as exception to forum rules?

If we are allowed to discuss moderators and moderation issues here then I might add some ideas....but I want a clear statement saying this is ok before I proceed.

It has been reiterated ad nauseum ad infinitum that discussion of moderators, moderator decisions, in short anything to do with moderation IS allowed- via the medium of PM (private message) or offline. Not online on the forum. Period.

This seems perfectly clear to me.

So in answer to your query, no, it's not OK, and do not proceed.

The forum is for discussing issues related to Thailand and our life here. Our non-moderator life here..... :o

Thanks for your understanding.
