Just out of curiosity, I just wonder if there is anyone who is fond of playing Retro (old) arcade games like:

1. Donkey Kong

2. Dr. Micro

3. Tiger Road

4. Street Fighter

5. Knuckle Joe

6. Green Beret

and many many other games.

I am a very big fan of these old games and I love to play them, whenever I have some spare time (once in a year maybe) :o

Heck yes, after all these years I'm still not sick of Tetris, but then that's coz I'm a total geek and oh, I happen to rock at it.

For some reason it just isn't the same playing these games on a PC or a Playstation. If someone would put them into cabinets, I'd probably play them quite often - especially Street Fighter. Donkey Kong is ok on a Playstation though.

haha. cool. :o (the youtube vid)

...and yes Tetris still rocks. I guess that must be the number one classic game?

I was looking around for portable video players recently and came across these two devices: GP2X and JXD 301. Both seem to have their good points and bad points.

The screen on the JXD sounds fantastic, and I've seen it going for about $130 USD for the 4GB onboard version. Add another 4GB SD card and you'd have a decent amount of music, videos & games combined with high quality screen.

I used to have the real original Williams Defender upright. Cost about £90 I think and for a couple of years you could get them for free nearly. Now a couple of grand at least recon.

I'd like an emulator for that on the PC.

Adams Family pinball ? Find the "GOLD" version and you're in the money. Probably the best pinball ever made. 2nd best, Guns and Roses.

Ahh.. the coin ops of the past. fond memories :o

a few personal favorites that ate up many a 10p of mine back then as a kid in the arcades...

Space Invaders included cos really, it's the one that started it all (for me anyway)

I'd love to own these and other machines now, just need the room and.. err.. the lottery win...

Just buy one cabinet and make it look classy, then add decent PC guts and emuator software... Might be tricky coming up with a control layout that worked for most games, but it could be very nice. You can also buy all the controls online if you wanted to have someone build a custom cabinet.

The originals are classic but there is a lot to be said for replicas. I mean, you're dealing with 20+ year old stuff in there and apart from the controls layout, all the software could be contained in even the smallest memory card. If you think what you need, then a trackball, Defender controls and your standard joysticks could be all incorporated on the same plinth and just wired up. You may have to get inside the coding though to reset the controls.

Xbox Live arcade has plenty of these old favourites.

Speedball 2, Sensible World of Soccer, Contra etc. Plus you can grab trial versions of the games for free :o
