It looks like Owen is getting his reasons ready for a move in the summer :o :

Yeah, but who will buy him? Only Newcircus were prepared to take the gamble last time,

Nope, he could have gone back to Anfield but lost his bottle and signed for the Barcodes. Luckily for Liverpool.

Owen didn't lose his bottle :D .

The reason Rafa didn't sign him 2 seasons ago was because Newcastle had made a bid to Madrid of 15 million pounds and we bid 9 million pounds ( which makes fair sense as we only received 7 million for him the season before ). The Geordies bid so much because at the time they needed a replacement for Shearer and Souness thought Owen would save his job :D . Owen was desperate to come back to Liverpool.

And the reason we didn't sign him at the beginning of this season , despite the strong suggestions of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher , was because Rafa's number one target was a lad called Feranando Torres ( thank <deleted> we got him :D ).

There is no way he is finished and the only thing stopping the teams in the top positions (hate saying big4 as Chelsea are a small team) signing him is the fact his price tag is so high for someone that is always injured.

When Michael Owen first came on the scene he could get the ball beat a man and run with it, the English coaches seem to have coached this skill that not many possess out of him, same applied for Beckham in his first couple of seasons.

Owen wanted to go back to Liverpool. Rafa would have signed him but wouldn't pay that amount of money.

Owen was talking to Liverpool almost up to the last minute. It was up to him. The fact is he could have told Madrid he wouldn't go to Newcastle and would only go to Liverpool. A player of his stature has that power these days. The idea was that if Madrid didn't give in immediately, he would have to stay there until Liverpool came back in January. But he lost his bottle - World Cup coming up and all that - and went to Newcastle.

According to Michael Owen he came to Newcastle because he wanted to, but if your tabloid story keeps the delusion of grandeur about the once mighty Liverpool then good luck to you.

Id carry him back to Liverpool for 9 million.

And if his love of Liverpool is so great why did he leave for what at the time was below the market rate, as it enabled him a bigger payday.

I don't read tabloids. I never said I think he loves Liverpool. And I think he's got pretty much all he's deserved. A fine player once, he's made some very bad career decisions.

Thats what I said :D .

He couldnt have told Madrid he would only go to Liverpool as he had already asked for a transfer , which gave Madrid the right to accept the highest bid.

He could have refused to go but as you say the World Cup was coming up and it's better to be playing every week in the premiership than sitting on a bench in Spain. Not at all a case of Owen losing his bottle , just making a smart choice.

I can see a similar situation happening with Owen as with Fowler at Leeds a few seasons ago. Fowler's salary was that high that in order to get rid of him, Leeds had to keep on paying a percentage of his salary when he went to Man City. As Owen is on 100K+ per week, I doubt that any club would be prepared to take the risk of Owen.

having a bit of a problem making sense of this, i would have thought that puts him in the same category as someone like saha, finished, at top level, maybe he could go on a pay per play contract.

It's not that it's been coached out of him. The fact is that he has lost his main asset, which always was electric pace. The injuries have taken there toll, and there is no way that any club will be prepared to pay what he is on now.

Agreed that he has lost a yard of pace, but he stopped beating men when he was with your scraggy horrible bunch and he still had pace then.

It's news to me that he played for my scraggy lot being a Unted fan :D . The fact is that Owen was able to beat men because of his pace, not becasue of his skill. It's still pretty unlikely that any of the big four have the slightest interest in him at this point. Newcastle were the only team willing to take the gamble and pay the money that he and Real wanted, but in a funny way he may well still be your "saviour" :o this year. Keegan on the other hand isn't a saviour, he's the one that has managed to take a mid table club into a relegation spot.

This is the big one this weekend.
