I have just returned from Singapore after getting a single entry tourist visa. When I was at the embassy the lady at the counter advised me that if I tried to obtain another single entry visa in 3 months time I would be refused. I have a new passport and the only other visa was a single enrty tourist issued in KL 3 months ago. Since when has it been illegal to obtain 3 consecutive single entry visas? I think immigration is so screwed up at the moment that they just don't know their own rules and regulations.

You should be able to get a third one in Penang. After that, it gets interesting.

If you get the feeling they are trying to shake you out of here, you have lots of company.

I got one single entry tourist visa from Singapore last week without any problem at all, even with my passport full with cambodiastamps and 3 prior single entry tourist visas...

And the visa was free of charge, does that apply for all or just some nations? i´m swedish, and got a stamp where the fee is usally written saying in swedish "GRATIS" which means Free.

Last week I was in Singapore and they were strict but fair.

I had a visa application form from the internet but was from the Thai site. :D

They wanted a Singapore visa application form.

So I filled it in and got my visa. :o

I was in and out in 10 minutes.

It's not illegal but unfortunately Visas are always a gesture of good will. And we are all suspicious at the moment.

You keep hoping that it will get better after the election.

It applies for some nations. I know for a fact that Filipinos don't pay for tourist visas.

If you application form was from the below web site it was from the people they work for. Strange.

I also did this, i downloaded the application form via the thai embassy in singapores own website, which they didnt accept, gotta fill inte the form they have printed out at the embassy... its really just the same info u put down, just some different layout..guess it makes the officers head spinning ;P

Here´s some info about the embassy and going there to get a visa...

The opening time for visa application was from 9:ish to 11:15 (on the website it says 12...- came to late the first day!), pick up the day after is from 14:00 to 17:00 i think.

The embassy is located just in the center of Orchird Road, just tell the taxi from the airport to go there and they´ll know where to go...

I didn´t use any agent, was easy enough without any.

I stayed at Hotel 81-star in Geyland district which i payed 50 USD / night for, pre-booked on the internet... sorry dont remeber the site but just google cheap hotel singapore and u should find it :o

Since i had some other business in singapore to attend to and stayed some days extra cous of that, i can´t give u any total price for the "visa trip", but shouldn´t be much more expensive then going to penang if u just keep away from the luxury temptations :D

I paid 50 Singapore dollars for a single entry tourist visa. I would advise getting there before 10:30. I arrived at 10:30 last Thursday (18th Oct.) and had about 30 people in front of me. The girl processing the visa applications is very efficient and the queue moves quickly. Pick up the next day is at 14:00 and only takes 5 minutes max. I went straight to the airport and got the 15:45 Thai airways flight back to BKK. Plenty of hotels are available online but make sure that you book at least a couple of weeks in advance. Last week all the hotels in Singapore were full due to several conferences.

Being a member of ASEAN may be the answer.

To my fellow countryman:

This is very strange, but yes, you can get free visas at the Singaporean embassy; my friend got a non immigrant, multiple entries, for free. I know that this also applies to Norwegians.

However, when I applied for the same visa at the Thai consulate in Gothenburg the other day, I had to pay 1000 SEK (roughly 5000 Baht).

PS: Gratis is actually an English word, even if we have the same word in Swedish.

This is becoming off-topic, but I just wanted to defend myself...

To all besserwissers (German for "people who knows better"):

What I meant is that this word, "gratis", is a word which English people can understand, yes? Well, at least it is in my English dictionary.

Therefore, it's an English word. It is, however, also a Swedish word.

I just wanted to stress this to Fritiof when he said "...got a stamp where the fee is usally written saying in swedish "GRATIS" which means Free."

So, please note: I was NOT talking about the word's origin. The origin is latin, that's correct.

Last time I looked, Sweden was not part of ASEAN :o
