Non-B to Retirement

is this possible and how ?

currently coming to the end of my final extension of a multi entry non-B , the visa expired a few days after my last boarder bounce .

the required funds will have been in a Thai Bank Savings a/c for 3 mths in about 10 days .

approached immigration today to confirm all was ok , as I am acting on their prior advice ,

to wit : take the possible 4th extension and use this time to season the required funds .

to-day the same officer has indicated that this is not acceptable and a trip out is required ?

thanxs in advance

How close are you coming to the end of your current permitted to stay? Normally it is not a problem obtaining a retirement extension as long as the funds have been in account 3 months and you still have some days remaining.

my current permit to stay expires on the 6th of Nov '07

the funds will have been in the a/c for 3 mths on the 5th of Nov '07 .

the timing is as advised as by the officer in question ,

if that was true , why not a seven day extension ?

and why was I advised to take this route ?

nobody knows .......................

It would seem to me that as long as you have a visa or a permit to stay in Thailand, that you can change your visa status in Thailand. I have changed from tourist to non-imm-O to extension based on retirement twice in five years with no problem.

A friend recently did it from a permit upon entry to non-imm-O to extension without difficulty.

I would go into immigration on the day you have 90 days aging on your bank funds and make your application for an extension. I am sure they will help you to accomplish what you want if you qualify and have the proper documentation. It might require an extension of some kind or a visa run at worst. Immigration has the authority to extend visas based on "documents being processed" or for other administrative reasons and I suspect they would be inclined to do that if your too close to expiration of your underlying visa or your funds are a day or two short for aging properly.
