I am the recent proud owner of a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC.

It has Vista loaded and I have a few problems.

1. All my .doc from my desk top will not open, it seems I don't have Microsoft Word loaded just a works programme, I managed to convert a few documents with open with (different programmes) but they come out distorted.

2. I receive Emails O.K. now I have entered my domain passwords in the Windows mail programme, but it seems I cannot receive emails from my personal .com address because I have to be connected to Freeola which is a UK local telephone number. Is there any way around this. I don't have an International line in my apartment here in the Middle East.

Thanks for any help. Will I have to buy Microsoft Word?

Open Wordpad and you should be able to do it, or download OpenOffice, which can read and save documents in MS Word format, otherwise you will have to buy Word/Office.
