Ill be fineshing my koi pond soon and was wondering if anyone else had koi fish and a good source for healthy fish. I know you can get fish at any pet shop but There has to be some stores in BK or Pattaya that specialize in Koi fish. Some fish will live more than 70 years and in Singapore Its a High dollar deal. I was thinking stepping up into the 100 baht a fish deal instead of the 10 baht pet store type. any ideas out there?

Hi Mai Krap and all the Koi lovers,

First of all, I'm Thai and I love the Thaivisa forum. :o

This is my new first post and that's because I'm a Koi freak myself.

I have now about 40 kois and that was a mistake as it's getting too crowded.

Here're links to Thai Koi websites. I think most of them in Thai but

the pictures are nice anyway.

I'm too byuying Koi from JJ market. You have to go at the Pet area and it also opens on week day. If I remember it right, only close on Monday and Friday.

There're 3 Koi shops that I think have a higher quality fish. However, I can't describe it here. Already did that to a Thai friend once on the phone and turned out that I have to be there to show him the places.

- You have to go there a bit early like before 8.00am to fight with other for good Kois. It's quite a good fun actually.

- I suggest you not to jump into any beautiful Koi and buy it right away just like me. You'd end up having too many fish in your pond. I suggest try to study how many Koi you can have in your pond first. Then the proportion of each type. This is quite important. Personally I love Ogon (purely white/yellow) and I now have 6 of them. Good proportion of this should be 1O% of Ogon. So I you can have 20 koi in you pond you should have just 2 Orgons. By following this method, you can creat the balance of the colour of your pond, this is a Japanese philosophy though.

- Actually, the quality of Koi in JJ market isn't that good though it's cheap.

There's a lot of Koi Farms in BKK and Pattaya but it's more like a thousand baht up. In JJ, you'll get like good quality fish for beginners.

- Be careful for disease when bringing new koi in especially in this rainy season.

I bought one last year around this time of the year and it had parasites. Turn out I lost 5 good fish from this incident. So don't forget to buy some medicine to kill and clean all your new Koi before putting them in your pond.

Well I apologise for my english. Hope this can help.

Take care and good luck!

There is a Koi fish outlet in Soi 22 Vibhavadi-Rangsit Rd. To get there you enter Soi 22 and turn first left ....it is just along on the right side 40 metres....cant miss the sign. Its a big place you can actually drive into and park the car if you have one........they must have some huge fish there........like my little goldie I had many years ago.....I called him Moby Dick !

Soi 22 is right next to St Johns University ........if you come along Vibhavadi Road from the big intersection where Lad prao and Pahonyothin Roads meet it is about the first soi you come to onthe left side. This is only a couple of miutes from Chatuchak.........but not sure if the shop is open on weekends.

Happy fishing.
