Petit but very strong here's the article ATHENS, 15 August - Udomporn POLSAK today became Thailand's first female gold medallist by winning the 53kg featherweight division at Nikaia Olympic Weightlifting Hall. POLSAK dominated both moves by snatching 97.5kg and lifting an Olympic record of 125.5kg in the clean and jerk to finish with a total of 222.5kg. The 23-year-old Thai, a world champion in Vancouver last November, outlasted Indonesia's Raema Lisa RUMBEWAS, silver medallist in Sydney in the 48kg class. A mistake may have cost RUMBEWAS the chance of a gold medal. She ran out of time in her second attempt on 122.5kg in clean and jerk and was left well behind POLSAK, finishing with a total of 210kg. However, with her second silver, RUMBEWAS became the first Indonesian athlete to win a medal in successive Olympic Games. Colombia's Mabel MOSQUERA took the bronze medal with a total of 197.5kg, giving her country its second women's weightlifting medal following Maria Isabel URRUTIA's victory in the 75kg class in Sydney. snoophound
Great to see I was wondering over the weekend ,what sort of team thailand had at the Olympics. Sport seems to have a very low profile in Thailand.
Indo-Siam
This little Korat lady really earned her medal. Amazing to see a 53 kg woman SNATCH almost 100 kg over her head - and then clean and jerk 125.5 kg. She managed to look tough, cute, and humble - all at the same time. A great credit to Thailand. Thai news channels are showing her effort almost non-stop. Cheers! Indo-Siam
